New&Old Overview

Tbilisi is a city that feels like a living postcard, and New&Old sits right in the heart of it, tucked onto the quiet side of Vakhtang Gorgasali III Dead End. I remember stepping out of the metro station, the air already tinged with the scent of fresh coffee from a nearby café and the faint, comforting musk of wood from the old stone buildings. The hotel itself is a blend of the historic and the modern—literally, the name New&Old is a nod to that mix. The first thing you notice is the wide, slightly ajar front desk, where the staff greets you with a genuine “how can I help you?” that feels less like a script and more like a friendly conversation. The check‑in was smooth; no long waits, just a quick swipe of your card and a key card that’s surprisingly sturdy. There’s no need to wait in line for the elevator—just a discreet button that takes you up to the lobby where the décor is a tasteful mix of Georgian antiques and contemporary art.

My room was a quiet sanctuary after a day of exploring. It’s a 4‑star space with a surprisingly generous balcony that overlooks a narrow alley where street performers sometimes set up during weekends. The bed is a king‑size with that feel like a soft hug, and the bathroom has a rainfall shower that leaves the room smelling faintly of eucalyptus. The noise level is a good balance; you can hear the distant rumble of the city but not the chatter that fills other hotels downtown. The mini‑bar is stocked with local Georgian wines and a few snacks, and the coffee machine—though a bit old—brews a surprisingly good pot, which is a lifesaver after a long day. I made a point to try the complimentary breakfast, and honestly, the khachapuri was a highlight—soft, buttery, and so much more authentic than the usual pastry options you find at chain hotels. The staff also offered a small note with a map of the best local spots, which felt oddly personal.

When it comes to being close to the action, New&Old is perfectly positioned. If you’re looking to stroll to the Old Town, that’s just a five‑minute walk. The hotel’s address—3 Vakhtang Gorgasali III Dead End, 3, Floor 1—places you right next to a small park where kids play and you can catch a glimpse of the ancient fortress in the distance. I’d recommend heading over to the Rustaveli Avenue for a dose of Georgian culture; the street is lined with bookstores, art galleries, and cafés that serve the best “khinkali” you’ll ever taste. For a quick escape, the Mtatsminda Funicular is a short ride away, and the view from the top is worth the climb. Parking is a bit of a challenge—there’s a municipal lot a block away, but the staff can arrange a spot for a small fee if you’re staying for more than a night. As for noise, the hotel’s location means you’ll hear the occasional motorbike or the distant traffic, but it’s far enough from the main squares to keep you from being woken up by a late‑night street party.

Overall, New&Old feels less like a place you just stay in and more like a place you stay in for a few days to feel the pulse of Tbilisi. The staff is approachable, the rooms comfortable, and the vibe is genuinely local—no stiff marketing fluff, just honest, practical hospitality. If you’re planning a trip in the spring or early fall, when the streets are lively but the weather is mild, this is a spot that will let you feel the city’s rhythm without the overwhelming buzz of a tourist hub. And if you’re in the city for a bit longer, the staff’s recommendations for hidden cafés and lesser‑known markets will make your stay feel a lot more authentic. You’ll leave with a sense that you’ve truly lived in the city for a few days, not just stayed in a hotel.

Tbilisi hotels provide guests with comfortable accommodations in Georgia’s cultural capital, known for its legendary wine culture and unique architectural blend.

A little cozy apartment with a lovely vintage atmosphere. It has everything you might need – hairdryer, washing machine, microwave, iron, and more. Very suitable for families. The host is a very kind and understanding lady, who made us feel comfortable right away. The sweet neighbor lady who welcomed us during check-in also helped us in every situation. The apartment is very clean, quiet, and has convenient parking space.

  • Perfect place to stay in Tbilisi – Nele from Belgium – September 19, 2023 (9/10)

Located near the city, but very quiet. We especially liked the parking place. The apartment is cool, even when warm outside. It has airconditioning too. Shower was hot, there was everything for cooking and a washing machine. Luckily for us, the owner put our laundry aside because it started to rain and we left it outside. She did not speak english but we understood. Communication via whatsapp went very well with the son or daughter. If you are looking for a place in Tbilisi, you have found it!
