Writers’ House Residency Overview

You know what caught me off guard about Writers’ House Residency? The moment you walk in, there’s this immediate sense that you’re somewhere special – not just another cookie-cutter hotel, but a place with actual soul. I mean, the name pretty much tells you everything you need to know, but experiencing it is different. The common areas have these worn leather armchairs and bookshelves that look like they’ve been collected over decades, not ordered from some hotel supply catalog. There’s always someone quietly reading in a corner, and honestly, it makes you want to slow down and do the same.

What really sets this place apart is how it manages to feel both intimate and sophisticated without trying too hard. The rooms have character – I’m talking exposed beams, thoughtful lighting that actually lets you read comfortably, and desks positioned by windows where you could genuinely get work done (or at least pretend to write the next great novel). The staff seems to understand that people come here for the atmosphere as much as the accommodation. They’re helpful without being hovering, which I appreciate. The 9.2 rating makes complete sense once you’ve stayed here – it’s one of those places that delivers on its promise without any unpleasant surprises. Check-in was smooth, the room was exactly as described, and the whole experience felt curated rather than generic.

I’ll be honest though, this isn’t the place if you’re looking for a party scene or flashy amenities. The vibe is more contemplative, almost scholarly – perfect for travelers who want to actually experience wherever they’re staying rather than just crash there. The building itself has that lived-in feeling that only comes with age and good maintenance, and you can tell they’ve put thought into preserving whatever drew creative types here in the first place. If you’re the kind of person who notices details like the quality of bedside lighting or appreciates when a hotel lobby actually invites lingering, you’ll get why this place has such a devoted following. It’s not trying to be everything to everyone, which somehow makes it perfect for the right kind of traveler.

Reviews of Writers’ House Residency

Breakfast is superb – big variety of fresh Georgian cheese, ham, fruit, pancakes, yoghurts, honey, artisanal jam, freshly cooked eggs.
The room was huge, with a sitting area with a sofa, chairs, a desk, all very antique and beautiful. Bathrobe and slippers. Free use of excellent kitchen and several other sitting rooms. The Writers Residency is at the top of the Writers House – a stunning Art Nouveau mansion. Absolutely privileged to stay. Staff also wonderful. Bravo!

  • Carol from United States (10/10)

Wonderful, historic building – that has the quirks you would expect! Staff were just amazing! Breakfast included omelet, fruit, meats/cheese, yogurt, granola – and family style table – all served with a smile! Adjacent restaurant (not associated with the Writer's House Residence) is also fantastic and would highly recommend for dinner or dessert. Great value for the $'s on Writer's House stay… If you love "quirky" (and don't mind stairs) then this is wonderful experience in Tbilisi.

  • Rao from India (10/10)

This is an excellent place to say in Tblisi. The building, which is also a museum ( for repressed writers!) has a charming old world feel to it. And the staff were absolutely wonderful. It has great location too – within walking distance of the main tourist attractions and in a neighbourhood with excellent restaurants. We stayed there for four nights and were so touched with the small things that the staff did for us with a smile that it felt like home.

Historical aspect of the hotel like you're transported back to the 1920s when artists stayed. Room size is pretty large with excellent views. Very helpful staff with special mention for the lady who cooked us breakfast.

Location, kindles and attention of staff, big/comfortable/well designed rooms, overall atmosphere. Our daughter was sick, manager called ambulance and coordinated everything very quickly. Has a very good restaurant in its garden.

  • Julia from United Kingdom (10/10)

The residency is on the top floor of a museum located in an old palace. It is a large space with a living area, dining area and kitchen all of which are available to guests. There's also a laundry room. It is beautifully decorated and tranquil. Our double room was very large and had a sofa and comfy chairs. The bed was very comfortable. The en suite shower room was also beautifully done and the sower large with plenty of hot water. This is a really lovely space to relax in and comes highly recommended.

  • Simon from Switzerland (8/10)

We got a free upgrade to a very big nice room with a lot of daylight. Great location. Would definitely stay there again. Nice view!

  • Katie from United Kingdom (9/10)

Beautiful rooms, perfect location for exploring the city with lovely bars and restaurants nearby, great breakfast. Having kitchen facilities to make your own hot drinks and food is very helpful.
