I stayed at Near the opera in Tbilisi and, honestly, it felt like a hidden gem tucked in a quiet corner of Mtatsminda. The building itself is a charming, slightly crooked two‑storey structure that looks like it could be from a postcard, but the interior says otherwise—warm, welcoming, and a touch modern without losing its Georgian soul. Check‑in was quick; the front desk staff gave me a friendly nod and a map that marked the nearby Metro station, the Mtatsminda Funicular, and even the best spots for a late‑night coffee. (I mean, they’re right in front of the hotel, so no excuse to miss them.)

The room was spacious for a 4‑star rating, with a plush king bed that felt like a hug after a day of sightseeing. The view from the window was a bit of a trade‑off: you get the city lights and the distant hills, but the street below is bustling, which means a little background chatter even at midnight. Still, the blackout curtains did their job, and the room’s quiet was a relief. The bathroom was surprisingly luxurious—think large glass shower, a decent amount of water pressure, and a selection of local soaps that smelled like fresh apricots and wild thyme. I also found a small kitchenette, which came in handy when I wanted to whip up a quick breakfast before heading out.

Parking is a bit of a puzzle. The hotel doesn’t have its own lot, so you’ll need to find street parking, which can be tight on weekends (and you’ll hear the honking of scooters and the occasional shout from a nearby market). But that’s part of the charm—walking out onto Rezo Tabukashvili street, you’re right in the middle of the neighborhood’s chatter, the scent of roasted chestnuts from the market stalls, and the faint hum of the ancient church bells. If you’re looking for a quiet place to sleep after a day of exploring the old town, this place works. Just be prepared for the occasional late‑night street noise and the fact that you’ll have to juggle a small bag for your night‑time strolls. Overall, Near the opera offers a cozy, authentic slice of Tbilisi life without the touristy flash.

  Excellent apartment for one large family or several. Lots of sleeping places, there is a room for everyone to drink tea or play board games. There is everything you need for a long vacation. Great location. All the sights are within walking distance. There are shops nearby. And the crossing over Rustaveli. The owner of the apartment is very attentive: he is always in touch and ready to help with any issues. We lived here for a week and felt at home the whole time.
  
  What could be improved: There was no such thing. We liked everything very much. Just be prepared that high ceilings come with long flights of stairs 🙂
