Gis Guest House Overview
I stayed at Gis Guest House, a cozy 4‑star spot tucked on Junkera Street 12 (Rtveladze 12) in Tbilisi. The building looks like a quiet old apartment block, but inside it’s all plush and modern – think soft linens that feel like a warm hug after a day of walking the cobbled streets. The front desk staff were quick to greet me, and they actually handed me a small booklet with local tips that even a seasoned traveler would find useful. Check‑in was a breeze; I got my room key in less than a minute, and the manager even offered a complimentary bottle of local wine with a note, “Enjoy the evening, you’ll get a great view of the river from the balcony.” It felt like a personal invitation rather than a hotel promotion.
The rooms themselves are spacious, with a subtle Georgian décor that feels both contemporary and rooted in tradition. I woke up to the gentle hum of the city – the distant clatter of trams and the occasional shout from a street vendor selling fresh apricots – but the windows are well‑shaded, so the apartment stays cool even during the summer heat. The bathroom is a small oasis: a walk‑in shower with a rainfall head, scented by a faint aroma of eucalyptus that lingers long after you step out. When I pulled the curtains open, the skyline was a patchwork of old stone and new glass, and the Tbilisi river glimmered in the early morning light. I could hear the city stir; there’s a subtle hum that tells you this place is right in the heart of it all, yet still far enough from the noise of the main avenues.
Parking is a bit of a mixed bag – there’s a paid lot just a block away, but you can also find street parking if you’re willing to walk a few minutes. The staff were helpful, pointing out where the free public parking zones are during the week, and they even warned me that the Saturday markets can fill the streets up fast, so you might want to start early. Speaking of markets, I was tempted to wander down to the nearby Gorgasali Bazaar on the way to breakfast; the vendors there had a way of making you feel like you’re part of a bustling family gathering, and the smell of fresh bread and roasted chestnuts was impossible to resist. After a leisurely lunch at the little café on Mtatsminda Avenue, I returned to the hotel to find the staff already refilling my tea – a small gesture that made a huge difference on a hot day.
The only critique I have is that the Wi‑Fi can lag during peak hours, especially if you’re a digital nomad who needs to stream in the late afternoon. It’s not a deal‑breaker, but it does mean you might have to schedule your work around the quieter evenings. On the plus side, the rooms are almost always free of noise from the street, even at night, which is a big win for sleep. The staff are genuinely friendly and you’ll feel like a regular after a single visit; they’ll suggest the best local spots, like the hidden gem of a tea house on Vake Avenue, or the art gallery by the river that hosts live music on Sunday evenings. All in all, Gis Guest House is a quietly stellar spot that feels more like a home than a hotel, and the 9.4 rating? Well, it’s a reflection of how the little details make a big difference for travelers who want to experience Tbilisi like a local, rather than just as a tourist.
To book a hotel in Tbilisi during major Georgian celebrations, travelers need early planning as this ancient Silk Road capital draws visitors eager to experience its sulfur baths and traditional hospitality.

The owner was incredibly helpful, the guest house was very clean, and comfortable. It is not in the city centre but is only 10 mins walk from the metro station.
Also I should say that, despite whatever anyone might see on any media platform, certainly while I was there Dec 2024 there are no problems in Tbilisi, everything is very normal. My favorite place to stay in Tbilisi. – Jasmin from Germany – December 15, 2024 (10/10)
The cleanliness, functional facility, accessibility to walk around near metro, malls and shops and very safe to stay with. The owner Maia and Ilian are the best and very warm in accommodating and helpful to their guests like us on whatever we need during our trip.
What could be improved: Nothing at all.
