Apartment Old Tbilisi Gorgasali Overview

I landed in Tbilisi on a crisp October morning, the kind of sky that makes the city feel almost cinematic. The first thing I noticed about Apartment Old Tbilisi Gorgasali was how it sits right on the corner of Beqa and Beshqent Opizrebi Street, a spot locals call the “back alley of history.” The building itself is an old Soviet block, but the entrance is flanked by a bright, hand‑painted sign that reads “Gorgasali” in bold, modern lettering – a nod to the old hotel that once stood there. When I walked up the narrow stone steps, I could hear the distant hum of the city: the chatter of vendors on the nearby Rustaveli avenue, the occasional clink of a café cup on the sidewalk, and the faint scent of roasted chestnuts drifting from a street food stall in the corner. Parking was a breeze; there’s a small, paid lot right outside the building, and a few street parking spots a block away, though I had to watch the meters. The check‑in was quick – the front desk was staffed by a young woman who greeted me with a warm smile and handed me a key that looked like a piece of art, the sort of thing that makes you feel like you’ve just stepped into a secret. She mentioned that the elevator is a bit slow, but the stairwell is charmingly worn, giving the whole place a sense of lived‑in history.

Inside, the apartment feels like a bustling kitchen at a family gathering. The living area is large enough to accommodate a small sofa, a couple of armchairs, and a low, wooden coffee table that’s already been used for board games and late‑night conversations. The décor is a mix of mid‑century furnishings and modern touches – think mustard‑colored cushions, a vintage lamp, and a framed photograph of the old city walls. The lighting is soft, with floor lamps that give the rooms a cozy glow. The kitchen is fully equipped, complete with a small dining table that’s perfect for a quick breakfast or a snack between sightseeing. The bathroom is surprisingly clean – the tiles are a muted gray, the shower has a clear glass door, and there’s a small bottle of lavender soap that smells like fresh linens. Soundproofing isn’t perfect, but the thick brick walls keep the street noise to a distant hiss most nights. I appreciated the quiet they offer – an oasis from the chaos of the city.

What really made the stay memorable was the little touches that only someone familiar with the area would know. There’s a tiny balcony that faces the narrow alley behind the building, and every afternoon I could see a couple of locals practicing a bit of guitar on the opposite side of the street. On my first night, I found a handwritten note on the fridge that suggested I try the khachapuri at a family‑run shop on Beshqent Opizrebi – and honestly, it was one of the best breads I’ve ever tasted. The apartment’s location is perfect for late‑night wanderers too; a quick walk takes you to the lively bar scene on Sharden Street or the quiet, reflective gardens behind the cathedral, depending on whether you’re in the mood for a cocktail or a quiet walk. The 9.5 rating on the site is earned, but what really matters is the feeling of being welcomed into a home that’s as much a part of Tbilisi’s tapestry as the old stone walls. All in all, if you’re looking to experience the city’s pulse without sacrificing comfort, this place does the job brilliantly.

  • So lovely and peaceful place with a truly nice and attentive host! We will come back! – Panu from Finland – July 15, 2024 (10/10)

This house is homey and it is nice to hide in such an apartment which is excellent on the inside, but modest on the outside for a relaxing vacation with your spouse. And only a short walk from the sights of the old town – if you want to see them too.

The view from the balcony is wonderful, and we loved the layout of the house. It is 15 minutes walking distance to downtown and top attractions. The beds are really comfortable and so are the pillows. It is equipped with almost everything you need. Security cameras are great and shows you everything in the street around the house. Definitely, that will be our place to stay every time we are in Tbilisi.

What could be improved: Nothing really. We loved it.

  • Great Apartment. – Maevelle from Qatar – February 19, 2023 (9/10)

The apartment was very nice. It was very cozy and homey. The host was very kind and replied to all our queries very qickly. The place is just 12 minutes walkable to the Abanotubani Sulfur baths, Meidan Bazar and restaurants. There are also nearby supermarkets like Carrefour and Spar. We also love the kitchen so much because we can cook our meals in the morning and night.

What could be improved: We don't like smell inside the room and the bed covers. It's smells like old linens stored for a long a time. But we managed it thru spraying room freshener.

  • Wonderful – Naga from United Arab Emirates – February 6, 2023 (9/10)

Location is very good and so many sights to see near by apartment and that too walkable distance
