The hotel sits right in that sweet spot where you’re surrounded by cobblestone streets and traditional architecture, but you’re not so deep in the maze that you’ll get lost trying to find a decent restaurant (though honestly, getting lost in Old Tbilisi isn’t the worst thing that could happen to you). What I loved was how the staff – and I mean this genuinely – seemed to actually know the neighborhood. When I asked about finding authentic khachapuri that wasn’t just tourist-focused, the guy at the front desk didn’t just point me to the closest place. He walked me outside and showed me exactly which turn to take to find this little bakery that locals actually use.

The rooms themselves have that careful balance between honoring the old Tbilisi vibe and actually being comfortable to sleep in. You know how sometimes “authentic” just means “we didn’t update anything since 1987”? Not the case here. My room had these beautiful high ceilings and windows that opened onto the kind of view you’d want to Instagram, but the bed was properly comfortable and the shower had actual water pressure. The walls are thick enough that I barely heard street noise, which surprised me given how lively the area gets in the evenings. I will say the stairs are narrow and winding – very much in keeping with Old Tbilisi architecture – so if you’re traveling with huge suitcases, maybe pack light or be prepared for a bit of a workout. But honestly, that’s part of the charm. Check-in was smooth, and they had great recommendations for everything from wine bars to where to catch the cable car up to Narikala Fortress. I ended up extending my stay by a day just because I wasn’t ready to leave the neighborhood, and they made that change without any drama. It’s one of those places where the 9.7 rating makes complete sense once you’re there – not because everything is fancy or over-the-top, but because it just works exactly the way you’d want it to.
