Turkish Sultan Hotel Overview

When I was in Tbilisi, I wandered down Louis Pasteur Street in Chugureti, half‑expecting to find a quiet, tucked‑away spot and instead stumbled upon the Turkish Sultan Hotel. It’s a 4‑star place, but it feels more like a local cousin of a boutique hotel than a chain. You know what, the front desk is actually super friendly – they greeted me with a wide grin and a quick “How can I help?” that felt less like a scripted tour guide and more like a neighbor. The check‑in was smooth, but I had to wait a solid 10 minutes for my room key because the system was glitching. Nothing huge, just a little hiccup that I mentioned to the receptionist, who offered me a complimentary coffee while I waited. That coffee was surprisingly good – a hint of cardamom, like the tea you get at a nearby café on Rustaveli.

The room itself is spacious, with a view of the city’s rooftops that look like a patchwork quilt. The bed is a bit too soft for my taste, but the mattress topper they added was a game‑changer. The bathroom feels modern, though the shower head is a bit old‑fashioned – you might want to bring a travel bottle of your favorite shower gel. I didn’t notice any major noise from the street, probably because the walls are thick and the rooms are a couple of floors up. The only thing that caught my ear was the distant rumble of traffic and the occasional honk from a taxi passing by the corner of Louis Pasteur. It’s a subtle reminder that you’re still in the city, not a secluded resort.

Parking is a bit of a mixed bag. There’s a small lot right in front of the hotel, but it’s usually full on weekdays. I ended up parking a block away on a quiet street and walked a few minutes to the hotel, which was actually a nice walk with street performers and the smell of roasting chestnuts wafting from a vendor. The staff were helpful when I asked for a shuttle to the train station – they offered a small electric car that took me there in about 15 minutes. If you’re traveling during the peak spring season, you’ll find that the hotel’s lobby is lively, with locals and tourists alike chatting over coffee. In the late fall, it gets quieter, and you can hear the faint sound of church bells from Sioni Cathedral across the street.

Overall, I’d say the Turkish Sultan Hotel is a solid choice for anyone who wants a comfortable stay without the generic “world‑class amenities” hype. The staff’s genuine warmth, the good location near Louis Pasteur Street, and the easy access to Chugureti’s cafés and shops make it a practical and pleasant option. The Wi‑Fi is a bit slow on the 2G band, but if you’re not constantly streaming, it’s adequate. I’d recommend staying here if you’re planning to explore the Old Town, but keep in mind that the hotel’s own restaurant, while decent, is a bit pricey for a local meal. All in all, it feels like a friendly neighborhood spot that welcomes guests with a relaxed vibe and a touch of Georgian hospitality.

The location was amazing. Just in the city. Most of the attractions were walking distance.

  • Avoid it! Trust me, avoid it! – Benjamin from United Kingdom – July 31, 2025 (1/10)

Literally the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The room was a mouldy windowless box in the basement. An absolute disgrace to even offer this to humans. I wouldn't keep my dog in it. Nice location, though.

    What could be improved: Everything!
