TOMASO Overview

I stayed in Tbilisi last month at the TOMASO hotel, and honestly, it felt like a home away from home – if your home was a cozy, slightly retro apartment tucked into the quieter side of the bustling city. The building itself is a mid‑century gem, with exposed brick and a little garden that smells faintly of lavender and old books. The lobby is a mix of modern art and rustic wood panels, and the staff greet you with that warm, “Gamarjoba” that makes you feel instantly at ease. Check‑in is quick – the front desk lady knows your name after you tell her a joke about the traffic on Shardeni Street, and you’re handed a key card that works on every floor. I mean, the whole experience feels less like a hotel and more like a friendly neighborhood café, but with Wi‑Fi (albeit a bit spotty when the city is humming).

The rooms are where the real charm shows up. The curtains are thick enough to block out the chatter from the street, but you can still hear the distant rumble of the Tbilisi metro, which is a comforting reminder that you’re not far from the city’s pulse. The bed is a generous size, with linens that feel like a soft hug – you’ll never want to get out. The bathroom is surprisingly spacious; there’s a small jade stone mirror that reflects the natural light from the tiny window, and the shower is a decent mix of power and gentleness. Coffee lovers will appreciate the small but mighty kettle on the desk – a must‑have for those late‑night work sessions or early‑morning espresso runs. The one tiny downside? The Wi‑Fi keeps dropping when the city’s nightlife gets loud, but that’s a minor trade‑off for the overall vibe.

What makes TOMASO really stand out is its location and the little details locals will love. It’s literally on Giorgi Brtskinvale Street, so you’re just a stone’s throw from the hidden gem cafés of Samgori and the lively market stalls that line the street. If you stroll down to Shardeni, you’ll hit the famous art deco cinema and the tiny bakery that sells the best khachapuri in town – the aroma alone is a draw. For outdoor lovers, the hotel’s rooftop garden offers a panoramic view of the city’s ancient hills and the river that snakes through the center. But be warned – the rooftop can get a bit breezy in the summer, so bring a light jacket if you plan to lounge there. Parking is a bit of a scavenger hunt; there’s no dedicated garage, but the street around the hotel offers metered spots, and you’ll find a few free spaces in the alleys if you’re patient. The noise level is moderate; it’s louder during the hot summer months when the city’s nightlife spills over, but the walls are solid enough that you can still drift off to sleep after a long day of exploring the historic Old Town, Metekhi Church, and the bustling Liberty Avenue. All in all, TOMASO feels like a thoughtful blend of local flair and comfort, and if you’re looking for a place that lets you breathe like a true Tbilisi resident, it’s definitely worth a stay.

Best hotels in Tbilisi range from charming boutique properties in the historic Old Town to elegant hillside hotels with stunning views of the Mtkvari River and Narikala Fortress.

– Kseniia from Russia – April 1, 2024 (9/10)

What could be improved: Отдушка полотенец. Днем небольшой шум от дороги.

  • Wonderful – Kristina from Russia – February 17, 2024 (9/10)

What could be improved: Первый низкий этаж, из-за этого холодный пол и шумновато. Периодически внезапно отключался котел.
