First Impressions

Walking up to The Urban Retreat on Pavle Ingorokva Street, you immediately get why this four-star boutique hotel has such devoted fans. It’s tucked into the Mtatsminda district — honestly one of Tbilisi’s most charming neighborhoods — and the building itself has that perfect blend of Georgian character with modern touches. The entrance feels intimate rather than grand, which I actually prefer when I’m looking for somewhere that feels more like a sophisticated hideaway than a corporate hotel.

Location & Neighborhood

Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re genuinely in the heart of everything, but on a quieter residential street that locals actually live on. Mtatsminda is where you’ll find some of the city’s best wine bars and those little family-run restaurant that don’t bother with English menus because they know their food speaks for itself. The cable car to Mtatsminda Park is practically around the corner, and you can walk to the Old Town in about fifteen minutes through streets that give you a real feel for how Tbilisi residents actually live. Plus, there’s parking right on site, which — trust me — is worth its weight in gold in this part of the city.

The Room Experience

My room had this wonderful sense of space that you don’t always get in boutique properties. The design feels thoughtfully Georgian without being heavy-handed about it — think clean lines with subtle nods to local craftsmanship rather than tourist-focused décor. The windows are generous, and if you’re lucky enough to get one of the upper floors, the views over the neighborhood’s mix of traditional and Soviet-era architecture tell the whole story of modern Tbilisi. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious, and honestly, the bed was exactly the right firmness after long days exploring the city’s steep streets.

Service & Atmosphere

What really sets this place apart is how the staff seems to genuinely care about your experience without being overly formal about it. They’ll give you restaurant recommendations that locals would actually go to, not just the touristy spots. The common areas have this relaxed sophistication — you know, the kind of place where you might end up chatting with other guests over wine without it feeling forced. I noticed a lot of couples during my stay, which makes sense given how romantic the whole Mtatsminda area feels, especially in the evenings when the city lights start twinkling below.

  It was such a pleasant stay in the apartment. Location is perfect, 3 minute walk away from Liberty square (City center) and the apartment is really nice, its view astonishing. Hpst is a great Person , very helpful and kind and in my case also flexible for the check-out – thank you for that.
  The only bad thing is that I didn't stay in the apartment longer 🙂
