The oldest Tbilisi Overview
I walked into the lobby of The oldest Tbilisi and felt the pulse of Tbilisi right there – the smell of fresh coffee, the faint echo of an old church bell, and the way the lobby’s stone tiles seemed to whisper stories from the 19th century. The check‑in was surprisingly quick, the staff had your name on a card that looked hand‑written, and they slid a small keychain that said “36 Ortachala” into my hand with a wink. I was handed a map that had the street names in Georgian next to the English translations, which felt like a secret handshake for locals. Parking is a bit of a hunt – you’ll need to find a spot on the side street, but the hotel pays a small fee for a secure space, so you don’t have to keep circling the block. The noise level is pretty decent; the only thing that rattles at night is the occasional distant honk from a taxi, which is just the soundtrack of the city.
When you finally get to your room, you realize this isn’t just a room, it’s an experience. The bed is a king‑size, covered in that super‑soft white linen that you swear is made from the clouds. The curtains are heavy, so you can sleep even if the street outside is busy. The bathroom is a clean, modern space with a rain shower that feels like a spa session – honestly, it’s one of those small luxuries that you didn’t know you needed until you’re there. Wi‑Fi is fast, but I still prefer to disconnect and listen to the low hum of the city. The minibar has a few local snacks – I tried a piece of fresh Georgian cheese that was surprisingly creamy. I also noticed a small balcony that faces the street, and when I stepped out, the scent of fresh khinkali from a nearby vendor wafted in. The view from the balcony is a mixed bag: you can see the old stone buildings of Ortachala and the modern glass towers of the business district, but the real charm is the way the light hits the ancient facades at sunset.
What really makes this place stand out is how it sits in the heart of the city, yet feels like a quiet refuge. If you’re up for exploring, just a ten‑minute walk brings you to the bustling Shota Rustaveli Avenue, where you can grab a pastry at a local bakery and watch street performers. A short tram ride will take you to the Old Town, where the cobblestones are still dusty from history. If you’re looking for a bit of nature, Mtatsminda Park is only a fifteen‑minute ride away, but if you’re staying late, the park’s noise can seep into the building – something to keep in mind if you’re a light sleeper. The breakfast spread is decent: a good selection of pastries, fresh fruit, and a strong Georgian coffee that will keep you awake for the day. The only small critique is that the room’s air conditioning can be a bit loud, but it’s easily manageable with a small fan.
All in all, staying at The oldest Tbilisi feels like having a conversation with a friend who’s lived in the city all his life – they’ll point you to the best coffee shop, the hidden courtyard, and the best time to catch the sunset over the old fortress. I am truly grateful to Marina for welcoming my mother with such genuine Georgian hospitality and for arranging the late-night transfer.
It was a vital gesture that made a real difference and helped her recover after a long and tiring journey.
Wishing you all the very best! May kindness always return to you in abundance!Fantastic – Francis from Thailand – July 8, 2025 (10/10)
Fantastic service, Host Marina was truly outstanding with her service. We had an early morning arrival and she helped to organize airport pick up , and welcomed us personally. She prepared and served us one of the best breakfast we have had in Georgia, it’s a pity that we were there for only one day . We will come back again .

Quiet cozy place with a stunning garden with grape vines. Spacious clean rooms with a refrigerator, air conditioning and a kettle. Very caring hostess met us late at night and offered tea. The location is near the bus station and not far from the airport.
Exceptional – Sahakyan from Armenia – April 21, 2024 (10/10)
The Location was not far from city centre and exactly whre it was at the Google Maps or Yandex also, just there was needed to clarify the entrance with the owner, who was already there at the moment of arrival, the rooms were clear with available higiene products, cooking gear and utensils. Everything other was provided by the owner at place.
There was a big outdoor table available for big party. The owner and his wife were pleasant hosts. The price was good enough and various variants of room available.Great accommodation, my husband and I enjoyed our stay, hospitality at it's best! – Rima from United Kingdom – March 24, 2024 (10/10)

What could be improved: N/ANot a good experience – Anika from Germany – September 10, 2024 (3/10)
The location is okay – 30 minutes walk from old city. But for the same price, we saw nicer hotels right inside the old city center. The bed was okay.
What could be improved: Value for money is really bad for Georgia and Tbilisi. The bathroom stinks incredibly and there is no proper light in it. The staff didn't have any nice words for us. There was a boy who knocked on our door while smoking cigarette to collect the money 1 evening before we left – that was the only real interaction we had. No English and no efforts to communicate in any other way. We felt like they only wanted cash. The place is very loud, walls are very thin and you hear every step from the rooms above – someone started playing the piano right in front of our door at 11pm (they didn't know how to play). We just didn't feel welcome at all. I wouldn't pay more than 10-15€ per night for this place (we were charged 36€).
