Terasa Mtacminda Overview
The first time I strolled into Tbilisi on a crisp February morning, the city was already humming with that familiar mix of old-world charm and modern buzz. I found myself on Aleksandre Chavchavadze street, right there at number 20, where the Terasa Mtacminda sits perched on the slope of Mtatsminda. Honestly, the view from the lobby windows is a postcard in motion: the winding streets below, the cathedral spires cutting into the crisp sky, and the distant hills that feel like a gentle hug. I mean, you just know you’re in the heart of the city and yet a breath away from the quiet of the hilltop.
The check‑in process was surprisingly breezy. The front desk staff greeted me with that warm Georgian welcome, and I got a card that let me skip the line—great for when you’re in a hurry after a late night at the local bar on Gorgasali. The room itself? It’s a cozy blend of rustic and contemporary, with a wooden floor that creaks just softly when you walk, and a window that frames the city like a living painting. I didn’t have to pay extra for the city view because it’s already part of the package. The bed was a dream—firm but yielding—and the linens have that faint floral scent that reminds you of the garden outside. Noise-wise, it’s pretty decent; the only thing that creeps in at night is the distant traffic from the main road, but the hotel’s walls are good at keeping that at bay.
Parking is a mixed bag. If you’re driving, there’s a small paid lot behind the hotel that’s usually on weekends, but I managed to snag a spot by walking up from the alley on Tbilisi Streetthough you’ll need a city badge for that. For those who prefer not to drive in the city, there’s a metro station a ten‑minute walk away, and the Mtatsminda Funicular is just a few minutes from the hotel, so you can hop on and enjoy the panoramic ride up to the park and the old fortress. I’ve walked from the hotel to the National Museum and back in under half an hour, and the stroll itself feels like a tour, with street vendors selling fresh khachapuri and a florist selling roses that smell like summer rain.
The best part? The locals know the hidden gems. I asked the concierge about the best breakfast spot, and she pointed me to a tiny café on the corner of Shota Rustaveli Street that serves the most authentic khachapuri. For a late‑night snack, there’s a small bar on the hill that’s a favorite among locals, offering a quiet spot to sip wine while watching the city lights flicker. I even tried a local dish called “khinkali” at a roadside stall near the hotel—breathtakingly good, and the steam rising from the dumplings was pure comfort.
Seasonally, Mtatsminda can get a bit chilly in the winter, but the hotel’s heating is reliable, and the balconies are great for a quiet, coffee‑drinking hour. In the summer, the view is spectacular; the sunset over Tbilisi is a lazy, golden wave that feels like a promise of the next day. I’d say the hotel is a solid 4‑star experience—simple, but the kind of place that feels like it cares about your stay, not just your room number. It’s not about flashy amenities; it’s about the little things—friendly staff, a view that never disappoints, and a sense that you’re part of the city’s rhythm. If you’re planning a trip to Tbilisi, this hotel gives you the perfect base to explore the city’s history and its vibrant, everyday life.

Nothing to fault. Pleasant hostess, her little daughter speaks English very well. The apartment has a terrace with a view of the whole Tbilisi, in front of the apartment there is another terrace that can be used, but it is shared. On the shared terrace you can take sweetened drinks, water, wine from the fridge for a fee. The prices are indicated on each bottle and can. The apartment has two separate rooms, one is windowless, the other has a small balcony. Everything is clean and ready. There are clotheslines and a couple of clothes pegs on the private terrace. We also used the washing machine and stove, there is a large fridge freezer.
What could be improved: A little challenging to find, the entrance to the house is basically from the courtyard of the house, not from the main road. Difficult to park in the neighborhood, it is located on a hill and spaces are scarce.Wonderful – Hristijan from North Macedonia – April 23, 2023 (9/10)
Lovely hosts, friendly, quiet, non-intrusive, they welcomed us with a homemade wine and traditional Easter sweets. The location is great, you can get quickly to one of the main streets and the center and you can reach every part of the city easily (by car).
