Tbilisi Vi64 Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Tbilisi Vi64, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The name’s a bit cryptic, you know? But after spending a few nights there, I get why it’s becoming one of those places locals actually recommend to visitors they like. It sits in this perfect sweet spot where you feel like you’re really in Tbilisi, not just passing through some generic hotel bubble.
What struck me immediately was how the staff actually seemed to know the city – I mean really know it, not just the tourist spots everyone hits. When I mentioned wanting to find decent khachapuri that wasn’t a tourist trap, the front desk guy (I think his name was Giorgi) sketched out this little map to a place his grandmother goes to. That’s the kind of detail that makes a difference when you’re trying to get under the skin of a place like Tbilisi. The rooms themselves are solid four-star territory – nothing flashy, but everything works the way it should. The beds are actually comfortable, which honestly can’t be said for every place in the city, and the bathrooms have proper water pressure. Small thing, but when you’ve been walking those steep cobblestone streets all day, a good shower matters.
The location is what really sells it though. You’re close enough to the old town that you can wander over for sunset views from Narikala Fortress, but you’re not dealing with the constant stream of tour groups that flood some of those central areas. There’s this great little wine bar about two blocks away – I stumbled onto it by accident on my second night and ended up chatting with this local artist until way too late. The neighborhood has that lived-in feel where you’ll see families heading to the market in the morning and old guys playing backgammon in the courtyard across the street. Parking can be a bit tricky if you’re driving (honestly, most of central Tbilisi is), but there’s a decent garage about a five-minute walk away. The breakfast is better than expected – they do this thing with local honey and fresh bread that’s simple but really good. What I appreciated most was that they don’t try to be something they’re not. It’s not trying to compete with the luxury places up in Vake, and it’s not pretending to be a boutique spot with Instagram-perfect everything. It’s just a well-run hotel where you can get a good night’s sleep, plan your day with people who know what they’re talking about, and feel like you’re staying somewhere that actually belongs in the city you came to see.
