Tbilisi Old Town Overview
I just came back from Tbilisi—you know how the city feels at dawn, when the old cobblestones still hold the echoes of yesterday’s traffic while the first coffee steam rises from a street vendor’s pot? The moment I stepped onto Samgebro Street 13, the air hit me with that sour, metallic tang of the nearby river and the faint perfume of blossoming limes from a neighbor’s balcony. It’s the kind of place that makes you pause and take a breath, because the old town is a living postcard, not just a backdrop.
When I finally checked into Tbilisi Old Town, the receptionist greeted me with a warm smile that felt like a familiar hug. She handed me a keycard and said, “Check‑in is quick—just a few taps on the tablet, and you’re good to go.” I actually liked how the process was almost hands‑off; no long lines, no endless paperwork. The lobby design is a tasteful blend of Georgian motifs and modern minimalism, and there’s this old wooden armchair that looks like it’s been here since the 1950s, so I sat there for a few minutes, sipping tea from a chipped mug that the staff had handed me. Parking was a bit of a legend—there isn’t a dedicated lot, but the staff will pull you into a nearby street block and help you navigate the narrow lanes. I parked in a small, almost claustrophobic spot, but it was a hair’s breadth from the front door, so that’s a win.
The room itself is a cozy, 4‑star space that feels more like a home than a hotel. The bed has that buttery, slightly lumpy foam you’d expect from a boutique. The window faces the bustling street of Samgebro, so you can hear the distant chatter of shopkeepers, the hiss of a bus, and, in the evenings, the soft hum of music from a nearby café. I had to set a white noise mask just to block out the nighttime traffic, but honestly, it wasn’t too bad—just a reminder of the city’s pulse. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious, with a rain shower that made me feel like I was standing under a waterfall (though the water pressure was a bit weak, but you can still get a decent rinse). There’s a small, thoughtfully curated minibar with local wines and some nuts, which is a nice touch for a quick snack after a long day of exploring.
What really sold me on this place was the personal touches that only locals would know. The staff recommended the best spot for a late‑night burger in the old town—just a two‑block walk, and the place serves the most authentic, greasy, savory burgers you’ll find in Tbilisi. They also pointed me toward the hidden courtyard near the ancient church, a quiet oasis where you can sit on a stone bench and watch the sunset paint the sky in golden hues. I spent a lazy Sunday morning there, sipping a strong, sweet Georgian coffee that tasted like the warmth of a grandmother’s kitchen. If you’re planning a trip during the peak summer months, be prepared for the streets to get crowded and the air to feel a bit stuffy; the best time to wander the old town is early morning or late evening, when the city slows down and you can truly listen to the stories it tells.
All in all, Tbilisi Old Town isn’t just a 4‑star hotel—it’s a living, breathing part of the city’s heart. It offers a blend of comfort and authenticity that’s hard to find elsewhere. If you’re looking for a place that feels like home, with a touch of local flavor and a check‑in that won’t leave you waiting, this is the spot. And trust me, the city’s own vibe will stay with you long after’ve left the front desk.
To book a hotel in Tbilisi during major Georgian celebrations, travelers need early planning as this ancient Silk Road capital draws visitors eager to experience its sulfur baths and traditional hospitality.

Reviews of Tbilisi Old Town
Exceptional – Shimjith from India – May 25, 2025 (10/10)
We stayed in this cute and cosy property for one week. It was an exceptionally pleasant experience. The location of the property is excellent, with all the attractions in old Tbilisi within short walking distance. Only a few feet away from Vakhtang Gorgasali square, but way secluded from the hustle. Lots of excellent restaurants, currency exchange centres, supermarkets etc. are very close by. A beautiful church is right opposite the property.
The property had all the amenities, very much homely, and the cleanliness of the property was remarkable. Parking of our rented car was also never a problem. The apartment had a common balcony, which offers excellent views of Kura river, Metekhi church and statue of King Gorgosali.
What needs a special mention here is the cooperation, friendliness and support of the host Mr. Vaso. Right since booking of the property, he was always accessible to clarify all our queries and to provide valuable suggestions. Since our flight was arriving Tbilisi at midnight, he kindly offered a complementary airport pickup which was really a blessing. Though the committed checkout time was 12 noon, he also offered a very late check-out to catch our return flight (which was again at midnight), at no additional charges. He was always dependable, friendly and polite. We will miss you dear friend.
Viola, the lovely caretaker, was another gem of a person. In spite of the language barrier, we could effectively communicate and she was always there to help. When we reached the property in the wee hours, she was still awake waiting for us. We are really sorry to trouble you Viola.
Altogether, the stay was excellent, and highly recommended.
Pros: Location, cleanliness, ambience, excellent host & caretaker.

Fresh from the airport, the house was so relaxing to view at. The first thing you notice inside is its cleanliness. Also, the host that was there, Viola, was so polite, kind, and understanding. The house was such a nice preview of our stay here in Georgia.
What could be improved: None.A great place to stay in the heart of Tbilisi. – Miro from Armenia – October 2, 2023 (10/10)
Do not miss the chance of staying at this place. The apartment is located less than 300meters to the Meidan bazar and the beautiful neighborhood won’t let you stay at home too much. The place is clean and comfortable while it is in an old building and the staff are also very kind and polite.
It is indeed fun and memorable. – Girly from United Arab Emirates – July 25, 2023 (9/10)

What could be improved: nothingCozy, Homey Apartment at the Heart of Tbilisi ♥ – Camille from United Arab Emirates – February 14, 2023 (9/10)
The apartment is very cozy and homey which made us feel more like a local than tourist. It has a small balcony facing a small alley behind and the view from the front window is a magnificent church. Location is fantastic as it is walking distance from major tourist attractions in Old Tbilisi. The hosts were so nice, too. We were met by Viola who helped us carry our super heavy luggage. She was superb! In the apartment, everything you need is provided including towels, shampoo, body wash, hair dryer, iron, kitchen appliances, utensils, washing machine and even laundry soap. The bed was super comfortable for me, the pillow was amazing and the comforter is soooo soft. I honestly had a really really good sleep. We had a super wonderful stay overall and will definitely book again when we come back to Tbilisi.
What could be improved: -Internet was a bit slow and quite hard to have signal in the rooms, we had to restart a number of times.
-Bathroom was tiny but was okay. A bathroom floor separator is probably a good idea to install so that the whole floor does not get wet when taking showers.
-Heaters were working but not very strong.
All the above mentioned were not much of an issue for us abut may be worth noting. 🙂Very Good – Megan from Germany – January 4, 2023 (8/10)
Great location in the center and friendly owner.
