The neighborhood has this lived-in feel where you’ll hear Georgian conversations drifting from balconies and catch the scent of fresh bread from corner bakeries early in the morning.

The studio itself is surprisingly sophisticated for the area – clean lines, really good lighting (which you appreciate more than you think you will), and they’ve nailed that balance between modern comfort and local character. What I loved was how quiet it gets at night; Avlabari doesn’t have the tourist crowds or late-night party scene you get closer to the old town, so you actually sleep well here. The hosts clearly know their stuff – they gave me walking directions to places I never would have found otherwise, including this tiny wine bar about ten minutes away where locals go after work. Check-in was smooth too, none of that awkward waiting around while they figure out your reservation.

Here’s the thing though – and this might matter depending on what you’re after – you’re going to walk a bit to get to the main attractions. It’s not bad, maybe 15-20 minutes to the sulfur baths or the old town, but it’s uphill on the way back (trust me on this one). That said, being slightly removed from the tourist zone means you get a genuine sense of how the city actually functions. I’d grab coffee from the little place around the corner each morning and watch people heading to work – it felt real in a way that staying right in the heart of everything sometimes doesn’t. The whole setup just works if you want somewhere comfortable to land while you explore, without paying old town prices or dealing with crowds right outside your door.
