Sololaki Hill Overview

Tbilisi is a city that feels like a secret garden stitched into a bustling metropolis, and Sololaki Hill is the kind of place that lets you feel the secret without even knowing you’re stepping into one. I first checked in on a rainy Thursday afternoon—yes, even in Georgia the rain can be dramatic. The front desk was surprisingly modern for a 4‑star, with a friendly clerk who handed me a keycard that looked like it belonged on a spaceship, but he also gave me a quick rundown of the inside parking situation and the best way to catch the old tram to the city center. The lobby was a minimalist canvas with a few vintage Georgian posters that almost made you feel like you’d stumbled into an art exhibit instead of a hotel. The scent of fresh coffee from the adjoining café drifted in—there’s nothing like that barista aroma to tell you you’ve landed in a place that knows how to keep its guests cozy.

The rooms are small but efficient, which is perfect for the travelers who hate cramped spaces. The bed had that generous, high‑plush comfort that you only find in a place that takes personal sleep seriously; the sheets were crisp, and the pillows were “just right” – not too firm, not too soft. The bathroom’s shower is a hidden oasis; the water pressure is strong, and the tile is warm to the touch, which is a relief after a day walking along the old streets of Sololaki. If you’re worried about noise, the windows are double‑glazed, so the nighttime hum of the city is reduced to a faint background hum that makes you think, “I could stay here forever.” Parking is a bit of a scavenger hunt, but the hotel offers a small, paid lot a few blocks away that’s usually free of charge for guests, and the staff will pick up your key at the gate and hand it to you—no waiting on a curb.

What really makes this place a personal favorite is how it opens up the local scene. I spent a Sunday strolling down Daniel Chonqadze Street, hand in hand with a friend, and we found a tiny, family‑run ice cream shop that sells the best khachapuri ice cream—yes, that’s a thing! The street itself is lined with old Soviet-era buildings that have been lovingly restored, and you can hear the distant chatter of children playing near the old Tbilisi Zoo. The hotel’s rooftop terrace is a real gem; you can watch the sunset over the city’s skyline while sipping a chilled vino, and the view of the Kura River is simply breathtaking. I mean, you’ve got to see it for yourself to understand the vibe. The only downside? The hotel can get a bit busy during the peak summer season, so you might want to book early if you’re planning a trip in July or August. But honestly, the staff are so accommodating that the rush feels more like a friendly buzz than a hassle.

When it comes to timing, the best time to visit is late summer or early autumn—when the heat has eased enough to enjoy the gardens outside, but the city is still buzzing with the post‑school crowd. If you’re a night owl, the area around the hotel is surprisingly quiet after midnight, giving you a sense of calm you won’t find in the more tourist‑heavy parts of the city. And if you’re a foodie, you’ll love the fact that the hotel’s restaurant, while not a Michelin‑star bistro, serves up traditional Georgian dishes that are genuinely authentic—think khinkali and a big pot of khachapuri that will have you licking your fingers. In short, Sololaki Hill is a place where you can feel the pulse of Tbilisi without losing the comfort of a home away from home, and it’s exactly that blend that makes me keep recommending it to friends.

Reviews of Sololaki Hill

  • Exceptional – Anna from Armenia – April 1, 2024 (10/10)

It's perfect apartment for this money. Very kind landlord. It's clean and facilities works great. Enough space for company stay. Everything is very good.

  • Wonderful – Tarlan from Azerbaijan – December 8, 2023 (9/10)

It is a great place in terms of price-performance. There is everything you need at home. There are many things such as refrigerator, teapot, washing machine, microwave, wifi, tv.

5-10 minutes from the center. In addition to being close to the center, it is a quiet and peaceful place. Even though it is one room, it provides the comfort of two rooms. Two people upstairs and one person downstairs can stay overnight.

The host never bothered us and was very polite.

Overall, I rate it 9-9.5 out of 10.

What could be improved: The road to the house is uphill, so you may have a little difficulty getting there. But since it doesn't take more than a few minutes, it's not a problem.

  • Fair – Jacob from United Arab Emirates – April 1, 2025 (5/10)

Okay place for the price, but good for couples.. Convenient with 10min to centre and parking within the premises.

  • Apartment ok but not a good host – Valeria from Germany – January 7, 2023 (6/10)

The location is great. The apartment is actually ok.

What could be improved: Unfortunately the host didn't warn us that the water will be turned off in the apartment in the evening, although he knew about it. So it came as a surprise,we couldn't take a shower after a long trip and in the morning we had no water to wash faces or to make tea. If he had warned us we could have at least saved some water. We had a little child with us too so that wasn't great. So that's one huge minus. The host knew about the water situation because he got a letter about it in advance.

The other big minus was that the host knew we are four people but provided bedding only for three. At my question he answered that he didn't realise that we need separate bedding because we are husband and wife and can share!! So me and my husband slept on one pillow and under a single blanket that is really meant for one person. We got the missing bedding on the next day, and since we only stayed 1.5 nights it hardly made a difference, the only good night sleep we had was ruined.

  • Hard to believe Booking.com qualified 3stars grade. – (kun from Czech Republic – October 3, 2023 (3/10)

Nothing in good comparing with others in same price level.

What could be improved: There is no 24hrs front desk, no english speaking available, hard to find location (two different addresses), doubt for Booking.com qualified 3star grade evaluation.

  • Exceptional – Alena from Belarus – June 16, 2025 (10/10)

What could be improved:

  • Exceptional – Alexander from Montenegro – May 13, 2025 (10/10)

  • Exceptional – Diana from Turkey – March 7, 2025 (10/10)

What could be improved:

Laly from Russia – January 4, 2025 (10/10)

What could be improved:

  • Exceptional – Roza from Kazakhstan – August 5, 2024 (10/10)
