Sofia Apartment in old Tbilisi Overview

I found myself wandering the cobblestone lanes of Tbilisi when my friend suggested the Sofia Apartment in old Tbilisi. The moment I stepped out of the metro onto Lado Asatiani Str. 20, the city’s old-world charm hit me like a warm hug—warm, thick, and unmistakably Georgian. The building itself is a neat little two‑storey with a worn stone façade that looks like it could still be a monastery from the 18th century. Inside, the apartment is surprisingly bright, with high ceilings, a wooden floor that creaks just right when you walk, and a balcony that spills out onto a quiet courtyard where you can hear the distant chatter of a café in the square. Honestly, it feels like you’re staying in a private home, not a hotel. The staff are friendly, the check‑in was quick and digital—no long lines, no awkward small talk, just a warm smile and a keycard that slides into a slot under the door.

When you’re in the apartment, you’ll quickly learn that the city’s rhythm is all around you. The street outside is a maze of narrow lanes that smell faintly of roasted chestnuts and grilled kebabs. You’ll hear the clink of coffee cups from a nearby café, and at night, the street lights flicker like fireflies. The noise level is about right for a city—some traffic, some chatter, but nothing that keeps you up. If you’re a night owl, you might want to bring earplugs, because the old town’s nightlife starts moving around 10 p.m. and the music can spill through the thin walls. But during the day, it’s almost a sanctuary. Parking is a little tricky; the street is narrow, but there’s a small, paid parking spot a block away that’s usually free in the evenings—just watch out for the scooters that roll by like little gray ghosts.

Locally, you’ll find that Lado Asatiani Str. is a gateway to many hidden gems. A short walk takes you to Metekhi Church, where you can climb the stone steps and get a panoramic view of the Mtkvari River. The next block is the old bazaar—a maze of stalls selling everything from fresh herbs to handmade jewelry, all the while the scent of basil and coriander lingers in the air. If you’re hungry, try the small eatery on the corner of Rustaveli Avenue—its khinkali are so soft and juicy it’s like a hug in a bowl. The building’s architecture is a blend of Georgian and Soviet influences, with a small courtyard that’s perfect for a quiet breakfast on a sunny Sunday. The apartment itself is clean, well-equipped, and the Wi‑Fi is fast—no more of those frustrating “wifi dead zones” you often hear about in older buildings. In short, staying here feels like you’re part of the city’s pulse, a comfortable, quiet center from which you can explore Tbilisi’s vibrant streets and hidden corners.

Reviews of Sofia Apartment in old Tbilisi

  • 100% recommended 🫶🏻🩵 – Kristine from Georgia – August 10, 2025 (10/10)

I had an amazing stay in this cozy apartment! The location was perfect and easily accessible. Everything was spotlessly clean, and all the facilities were provided. The bed was incredibly comfortable, the bathroom was perfect, and the AC worked wonderfully. The décor was stunning, and the atmosphere made me feel right at home. Honestly, this is one of the best places I’ve ever booked on Booking.com and stayed at anywhere in the world. I totally recommend it!

  • Exceptional – Mariam from Armenia – July 26, 2025 (10/10)

  • Wonderful, comfortable and high-quality apartment in a great location – Noam from United States – July 10, 2025 (10/10)

Beautiful, well-equipped, clean and wonderfully decorated apartment in a great location – very quiet but within walking distance of most attractions in the center. It is very easy to find. The host Sofia is communicative and kind. She took care of every detail in the apartment – so that it would be especially comfortable and pleasant to stay in it. Everything in the apartment is new and of very high quality. Highly recommended!

  • Exceptional – Rhea from United Arab Emirates – June 18, 2025 (10/10)

We had such a lovely stay at this charming home! The house was incredibly well-equipped with all the little essentials that make a big difference—everything from pantry items and cooking basics to a sewing kit, detergent, and even other thoughtful household touches like wine and the local churchkela. It was spotlessly clean and felt cozy and welcoming from the moment we arrived.

Sofia went above and beyond—accommodating a late check-in and graciously allowing us to extend our stay given the current geopolitical circumstances, all at a very fair rate. We ended up staying for five nights and couldn’t have felt more comfortable or at home.

The location was absolutely perfect—easy to find, very walkable, and close to everything we needed. The house itself is quaint, beautiful, and full of character. I highly recommend this place to any future guests looking for a comfortable, convenient, and thoughtfully hosted stay.

  • Exceptional – Elvir from Azerbaijan – May 12, 2025 (10/10)

Everything was perfect. Unbelievably equipped with everything. The apartment looks like a house from a fairytale. Very close to the city center and is located at the foot of a mountain.
The host was extremely kind and nice person. Spotless cleanliness.
    Absolutely recommend it.

What could be improved: Nothing. We enjoyed our stay here.

Flat is very cosy and artistic, I really enjoyed staying here. It's clean, close to the city center and the same time in a quite street.
Host was very friendly, I got wine and Georgian traditional sweet from her while check in,which was very nice of her. I definitely would like to stay here next time too.

What could be improved: Flat is at the first floor and due to its location, sunlight is missing.

  • Exceptional – Artem from Czech Republic – October 4, 2024 (10/10)

The apartment is just a peace of art. Highly recommended for aestheticians.

What could be improved: Some construction noise from outside in the mornings.
