When I first walked into the Sheraton Grand Tbilisi Metechi Palace, I honestly wasn’t prepared for how dramatic it would be – there’s something about the way it sits perched above the Mtkvari River that makes you stop and actually take it in. The lobby has this grand, almost theatrical feeling with all that marble and those soaring ceilings, but it doesn’t feel stuffy or intimidating. You know what I mean? It’s fancy without making you feel like you need to whisper.

The location is what really got me though. I mean, you’re literally steps away from the Old Town’s cobblestone streets, and you can walk to the sulfur baths district in maybe ten minutes – those are the natural hot springs that Tbilisi is actually named after, which not everyone realizes. From most of the river-facing rooms (and trust me, you want to request one of those), you get this incredible view of the Narikala Fortress lit up at night. During the day, you can watch the cable cars going up to the monument, and there’s something oddly mesmerizing about it. The hotel sits right where the historic Metechi Church is – that’s the little stone church you see in all the postcards – so you’re really in the heart of where the city’s story began.

What impressed me most was how the staff seemed to genuinely know the city, not just the tourist spots. The concierge pointed me toward this little wine bar in Sololaki that I never would have found on my own, and when I asked about getting to the Dry Bridge flea market, he gave me the kind of detailed directions that only come from someone who’s actually been there. The rooms are comfortable in that reliable Sheraton way – good beds, solid Wi-Fi, bathrooms that actually have water pressure. Nothing revolutionary, but everything works the way it should. I stayed during summer and the air conditioning was a lifesaver because Tbilisi gets properly hot in July and August. One small thing that bugged me was the elevator situation during busy times – there are only two main elevators for a pretty big hotel, so you might find yourself waiting a bit during check-in rush or breakfast hours. But honestly, that’s a minor complaint when you’re getting an 8.6 rating experience at a five-star place that puts you right in the middle of everything that matters in this city. If you’re the type who wants to be able to walk to the best restaurants and still come back to proper luxury amenities, this place hits that sweet spot perfectly.

  Sheraton caters to a Western Mindset with accompanying prices, but it has excellent amenities – a gorgeous outside pool area and nice indoor pool. The breakfast was sumptuous and varied but I could not consume the amount of food for the price! The lobby is very comfortable. The staff were gracious and helped to book taxis and kept our luggage after checkout.
  The rooftop is fabulous, especially at sunset to see the views of old town. It's beautifully decorated as well and evokes Old Georgia with its artefacts and enlarged photos of old Tbilisi and its inhabitants – like a museum! the terraces are very comfortable – you can spend hours going from one space to another.
  The size of the Sheraton makes it somewhat impersonal but it's still a Georgian experience! there was a conference while we were there so that's an exposure to upper-middle class people in Georgia.
