Sandali Metekhi Boutique Hotel Overview
You know what really caught me off guard about Sandali Metekhi Boutique Hotel? It’s tucked away in this perfectly quiet corner of Tbilisi‘s old town, but somehow you’re still close enough to everything that matters. I mean, when you step out the front door, you’re basically a stone’s throw from the Metekhi Church – which, honestly, is one of those spots that looks incredible at sunset if you’re into that sort of thing.
The boutique aspect here isn’t just marketing speak either. There are only a handful of rooms, so the staff actually remembers your name by day two, and they seem genuinely excited to help with restaurant recommendations (take their advice on the khinkali places, by the way). The rooms themselves have this interesting mix of traditional Georgian touches and modern comfort – think exposed brick walls but with proper air conditioning and blackout curtains that actually work. I stayed here during one of those sweltering July weeks, and honestly, the AC was a lifesaver. The bathrooms are compact but thoughtfully designed, with rainfall showers that have decent water pressure, which isn’t always a given in this part of the city.
What really sets this place apart though is the breakfast situation – they serve it in this cozy dining area that overlooks the Mtkvari River, and you can watch the cable cars heading up to Narikala Fortress while you’re having your coffee. The Georgian cheese bread they make fresh each morning is ridiculously good, and they’ll keep bringing you more if you ask nicely. The location means you’re walking distance from the sulfur baths (about ten minutes downhill), and if you’re planning to explore the old town’s winding streets, you’re literally in the heart of it all. Parking can be a bit tricky – the streets here are narrow and cobblestoned – but the hotel can arrange something for you if you’re driving. I actually preferred walking everywhere anyway; there’s something about wandering through these ancient streets that you miss when you’re in a car. The neighborhood gets pretty quiet after 10 PM, which was perfect for me, but if you’re looking for late-night action, you’ll want to head toward Rustaveli Avenue or the newer parts of town. That 9.4 rating makes complete sense once you’ve been there – it’s the kind of place that does the basics exceptionally well without trying too hard to impress you with unnecessary frills.

Wow! Where do I start… staff were exceptional, very warm and friendly and did everything they could to make my stay perfect. Which it was! Bed was like sleeping on a cloud, so so soft and big. The room itself was so clean and very modern, bathroom was great with a big shower. The show stopper was the glass floor and bathtub on the balcony which was a surprise after I only booked a premium room but mentioned it was my birthday. So the receptionist when I checked in said the hotel wanted to gift me the luxe glass room as a present. Was so grateful and surprised. I was also given a bottle of Georgian wine. Bathtub is heaven, I had 2 baths in it, in the evening and morning and was really relaxed with the sun coming down on me and watching the river boats pass by. Pure bliss! If I get get a chance to come back to this hotel I will definitely spend the extra money for this luxe glass room again!

I really loved this hotel! The staff were super friendly and informative from the beginning, the place was clean, the bed comfortable, the breakfast was so good and varied, and it was a 5 minute walk to the old town (actually, I think the hotel itself is technically in the Old Town…a 5 minute walk into the centre of the old town, in that case). I would recommend this place to friends, and I would stay here again. Great value for money, too.
