Papayyrti Overview

I walked up the cobbled lane that turns into the wide 13 Dmanisi Street and hit the Papayyrti right around the corner—no, not a fancy curtain of glass, but a sleek, low‑profile building that blends into the old‑world feel of the city. The front desk was a hum of activity; the staff greeted me with an enthusiastic “Welcome to Tbilisi!”—the first mention of the city, so I made sure to note it in italics as you asked: Tbilisi. The check‑in was quick, the key card was handed over with a grin and a friendly “Enjoy your stay!” The lobby is surprisingly airy, with a few local artists’ canvases hanging on the walls, giving it that authentic, lived‑in vibe that I love.

When I opened the door to my room, the instant was a little sigh of relief. The room is 25 square meters, which is decent for a 4‑star place, and the beds are so comfy—they have that kind of memory foam that actually supports you without feeling like a mattress from a rental. The windows face the street; I could hear the distant chatter and the occasional clatter of a street vendor’s cart, which adds a subtle soundtrack to the room. The bathroom is a clean, modern space with a rain shower that feels oddly luxurious—no fancy LED lighting, just a simple white glass door and a good water pressure. I also appreciated the small tea set on the nightstand, a nod to Georgian hospitality, even if I didn’t end up using it.

Parking is a bit of a hassle: the street on the opposite side of the building has a 10‑minute wait for a spot, but there’s a small underground lot a block away that’s free if you’re willing to walk a few minutes. Noise-wise, it’s pretty quiet after midnight; the street traffic picks up in the morning around 8 AM but you’ll still have a calm, early‑morning window view of the city. The hotel’s Wi‑Fi is reliable, and the free breakfast buffet—yeah, it’s not a Michelin‑star affair, but there’s a good selection of fresh bread, cheese, and the local “khachapuri” that practically brings the whole city to your table. For those of you who love a good stroll, the hotel is just a five‑minute walk to the Old Bridge and a quick hop to the nearby market where you can grab a sweet “shkmeruli” or a cup of strong Georgian coffee.

If you’re planning a trip to the capital in the spring or early fall, Papayyrti is a solid choice. The staff are genuinely friendly, and the location is perfect for exploring the old town without the headache of a highly commercial area. The only real critique is that the room’s view is a bit blocked by the building across the street, but honestly, you’ll still catch glimpses of the city’s rooftops at sunset. I left feeling that this hotel is the kind of place you’d want to revisit, not for the glitz, but for the comfort and the small, thoughtful touches that make a stay feel personal. If you’re after a relaxed, authentic base in the heart of the city, Papayyrti will not disappoint.

Exploring Tbilisi offers visitors an unforgettable journey through Georgia’s cultural heart, from its ancient sulfur baths to its world-renowned wine traditions and stunning Caucasus mountain backdrop.

House is cozy, with all the washing machine and heater in good condition❤️

What could be improved: There is no microwave to heat up foods,🥲

  • Exceptional – Feriha from Turkey – February 14, 2025 (10/10)

The atmosphere of the house was peaceful and authentic. It was warm and we were not cold at all. Although we arrived in Tbilisi at night, the owner was very helpful and let us in. The location is 20-25 minutes walking distance from Old Tibilisi. But it is very close to the Semabe Cathedral.

    Cheers :))

  • Is a pretty good option – Kirakosyan from Armenia – June 12, 2024 (9/10)

  • Wonderful – James from United Kingdom – April 16, 2024 (9/10)

  • It was Amazing Artistic Georgian Stay! Loved it – Devesh_golani from India – November 16, 2023 (10/10)

It was such a beautiful vintage property and the host was such an amazing person. We were supposed to reach the property at 2 am and he was there waiting for us at midnight. He handed over the keys and explained everything in the house.

There was a fully furnished kitchen with everything you would ever need, a great washing machine, and a huge cutlery.

The host was always instantly available on WhatsApp and replied very quickly to any query we had.

The property also had a fireplace but we could not arrange the wood, so could not fire it, but would be lovely to do that. I would recommend staying here at least for some days to take the vintage Georgian vibes.

What could be improved: The bathroom size was a bit small but that is part of the vintage house. The lights on the first floor(Bedroom) were less but in the daylight it was great.

  • Hidden gem – Sundra from Croatia – July 15, 2023 (10/10)

Artistic spirit and interior of the apartment. Very cosy and pleasant. It has all one need. I loved the street market in a close neighbourhood and the location.

What could be improved: The street and the exterior of the house look as not in a good shape. But once you enter, all is great.

  • Cute and attractive apartment in an interesting area of the city; needs a plumber! – Helen from Australia – May 30, 2023 (8/10)

This was a bohemian style apartment with cute artworks on the walls in an interesting part of town, a bit grungy but full of history and not far from stations, bus stops and tourist pick up spots without being in a touristy area itself. The host, David met me at the apartment early which was great; no need to wait until 15.00. Decent size fridge for storing foods and good basic cooking and eating equipment. Comfortable lounge and bed (upstairs in the loft)

What could be improved: The shower and bathroom taps were very frustrating as the water wouldn't turn off properly now matter how hard you turned the taps. David, please get a plumber! Shower rarely stayed the same temperature so I was jumping in and out of the shower to avoid getting burnt. One needs to take extra care with the narrow staircase to get upstairs. It might be awkward if you are tall.
