Old Tbilisi Sololaki Overview

I was strolling down Sultanishani Turn on a quiet Saturday morning when I spotted the Old Tbilisi Sololaki building. It’s a charming, slightly worn brick structure that looks like it’s been there forever, and I could almost hear the distant hum of the city’s traffic and the chatter of locals as I approached. The hotel’s address—6 Sultanishani Turn 4/9, 0140 Tbilisi, Georgia—made me think of the tight-knit neighborhoods that line this street, each with its own little café or market stall.

When I arrived, the front desk was surprisingly laid‑back but efficient. The staff greeted me with a smile, and the check‑in process was quick; I was handed a key and a map of the area, which was a lifesaver. They even warned me about the nearby bus stop on the corner of the street—there’s a bit of a “bump” in the road, so be careful if you’re carrying a lot of luggage. Parking can be a bit of a challenge; the building has a small, cobbled parking lot that’s only big enough for a couple of cars, but if you’re okay with walking a few minutes, there’s a public parking garage just across the street that’s cheaper and more spacious.

The rooms are a blend of old-world charm and modern convenience. I booked a queen‑size room on the second floor, and it was quiet enough for a good night’s sleep, especially compared to the early‑morning rush at the metro station on 4th Street. The bed was a surprisingly comfortable, plush mattress that made me want to stay in for a few more days. The bathroom was a neat, functional space with a decent shower, and the city windows offered a view of the rooftops of the old town—it’s not a skyline, but you can see the rooftops of neighboring houses and the occasional church spire. The only downside was the slightly squeaky floorboards, which made a faint, rhythmic sound when you walked—something to be aware of if you’re sensitive to noise.

One of the highlights was the lobby’s coffee bar. The barista, a friendly woman named Nino, brewed a strong, aromatic espresso that tasted like a mix of local herbs and roasted beans; it was the perfect pick‑me‑up after a long day of exploring. She recommended the “Kakheti” café on 2nd Street, which is a stone’s throw away and known for its traditional Georgian dishes. I followed her suggestion, and the khachapuri there was so good it made me think, “I could stay here forever.”

The hotel’s location is great for both the history buffs and the foodies. On the left side of the street, you’ll find the old bakery that sells the best “pampushki,” and a few blocks down, the “Mtskheta” tea house offers a quiet spot to relax with a cup of black tea, watching the city’s morning bustle. The corner of Sultanishani and 5th Street has a small art gallery that showcases local artists—you can wander in for an hour and feel you’re in the heart of the city.

I also appreciated the hotel’s quiet policy: no loud music after 10 PM, which means you can sleep peacefully. The only real drawback was the small balcony that’s tucked behind a thin wall—there’s almost no privacy, but it’s a small price to pay for the view of the rooftops.

All in all, staying at Old Tbilisi Sololaki felt like a step back in time while still having the comforts you’d expect from a modern hotel. The staff were warm, the rooms were cozy, and the neighborhood has that authentic, everyday feel that makes you feel like you’re truly part of the city’s rhythm. If you’re looking for a place that feels like a local’s home, this is your spot—just be ready for a tiny bit of cobblestone and a lot of character.

Exploring Tbilisi offers visitors an unforgettable journey through Georgia’s cultural heart, from its ancient sulfur baths to its world-renowned wine traditions and stunning Caucasus mountain backdrop.

  • Exceptional – Ihor from France – July 19, 2025 (10/10)

What could be improved:

Bogdan from Georgia – May 12, 2025 (10/10)

  • Pleasant – Shelenina from Ukraine – August 28, 2025 (6/10)

What could be improved:

  • Very Poor – Леся from Ukraine – August 29, 2025 (2/10)

What could be improved:
