Old Tbilisi Narikala Apartment Overview
I found myself in Tbilisi after a long flight from the West, and the first thing that hit me was the smell of roasting chestnuts and the distant clang of the old trolley rails. The Old Tbilisi Narikala Apartment, perched on Lado Asatiani Street, feels like a hidden gem tucked in the city’s cobblestoned heartbeat. Check‑in was a quick handshake with the host, who handed me a key and a handful of local tips—no formal tour guide, just a friendly face that knows every shortcut to a good coffee shop. The building itself is a 19th‑century brick façade, with a small balcony that offers a view of the city’s sprawl at dusk; you can almost hear the chatter of street vendors and the occasional church bell.
The apartment is a cozy 35 m² slice of modern Georgian charm. I mean, the walls are a soft beige with subtle art prints, the bed is a surprisingly comfortable hybrid of foam and memory, and the kitchenette is stocked with a kettle, a small fridge, and a set of copper pots—hand‑made, I think. The living area is small but functional, with a flat‑screen TV that’s perfect for catching a local football match. Noise is a mixed bag: the street is lively, but the apartment’s thick windows keep the city’s hum at a polite distance, especially if you close the curtains. Parking is a bit of a hunt; you’ll need to find a spot in the narrow lanes behind the building, but the city’s free parking app makes it manageable. I also noticed a small, but very handy, storage locker above the apartment that’s great for extra luggage or a bike.
If you’re looking to explore, the apartment’s location is a real advantage. A short walk takes you to the old town’s winding lanes, where you can hop on the Mtatsminda funicular for a panoramic view of the entire city—honestly, the sunset from there is worth waking up early for. A few minutes down Lado Asatiani Street, you’ll find the local market, where vendors sell fresh apricots, walnuts, and the best homemade khachapuri. The nearby Rustaveli Avenue is a bustling boulevard with theaters and art galleries, but the quieter side streets are perfect for a relaxed stroll. I’ve been to the Narikala Fortress and found the climb a bit steep for the elderly, but the view of the river and the city skyline is unbeatable. One critique: the Wi‑Fi is decent but sometimes lags during peak hours—just a heads‑up if you’re working. Overall, the Old Tbilisi Narikala Apartment offers a genuine, immersive experience, with the kind of personal touches that make you feel like you’ve found a second home in the heart of Tbilisi.
