Old Metekhi History Overview
In Tbilisi, I stumbled across the Old Metekhi History while wandering the cobblestone lanes near Metekhi Rise. The first thing that hit me was the narrow, stone‑lined stairwell leading up to the hotel—almost like a secret passage from the old quarter. Check‑in was surprisingly breezy; the front desk agent had a friendly grin and handed me a small brass key with a tiny Georgian crest on it, almost like a relic. I mean, she knew exactly who I was, even though I was a tourist in a different country. Parking is a bit of a hustle—there’s a small, somewhat disorganized lot right in front of the building, but the staff will hand you a parking card and point you to a space that’s usually free on weekdays. So if you’re not driving yourself, just keep that in mind.
The room itself feels like a time capsule, with exposed brick walls and a low, wooden ceiling that gives it an almost cavernous feel. The bed is a massive platform mattress, and the linens are crisp, but the real charm is the view from the window: a sweeping panorama of the Mtkvari River and the distant Mtatsminda. Honestly, the morning light filtering through the sheer curtains is one of those quiet moments that makes you want to stay in bed a little longer. The room’s noise level is a bit variable—if you’re on the lower floor, you can hear the distant chatter from the nearby market, but the windows are double‑glazed enough that the city’s hum doesn’t drown out the soft rustle of the curtains. The bathroom is compact but efficient, with a deep soaking tub that’s perfect after a day of exploring. The bathroom also smells faintly of eucalyptus oil, a small but pleasant nod from the hotel’s housekeeping team.
After a quick breakfast—yes, they do serve homemade khachapuri, which I swear tastes better than any chain—you’ll be ready to head out. The hotel’s location is a goldmine for locals and travelers alike: just a few steps away is the Metekhi Church, and a short walk brings you to the bustling Rustaveli Avenue where you can grab a coffee at Tbilisi’s oldest café, “Café Merani.” For those who love to wander, the nearby Shardeni Street offers a labyrinth of tiny shops selling everything from handmade jewelry to vintage postcards. I found myself spending an entire afternoon at the Georgian National Museum, which is only a 10‑minute walk away. The only real downside I noticed was that the lobby can get a bit noisy at peak tourist season—especially around the check‑out time—so if you’re looking for a quiet place to rest, it’s better to plan your stay during the shoulder seasons, like late spring or early autumn. That’s when the streets are less crowded, the cafes are less packed, and the whole city has a more relaxed vibe.
Overall, the Old Metekhi History feels like a hidden gem tucked away in the heart of the city. The staff are warm and genuinely helpful, the rooms are cozy and authentic, and the location offers instant access to some of Tbilisi’s best sights and sounds. If you’re planning a trip and want to experience the city without the usual tourist traps, this place gives you that authentic, almost intimate feel you’re looking for—just remember to bring a pair of comfortable shoes, because the streets here are a mix of cobblestones, limestone, and the occasional modern pavement. The hotel’s check‑in is efficient, the parking is manageable if you’re patient, and the overall experience is a delightful blend of history and everyday life. So, when you’re ready to pack your bags, consider sliding into Old Metekhi History—you’ll likely end up saying, “I actually had the best nights in Tbilisi.”

A Very Good Choice for Accommodation in Tbilisi – Chanindh_reviews from Thailand – July 2, 2025 (9/10)
The location of this hotel is perfect — all of Tbilisi's attractions can be reached on foot if you are in decent physical condition, and a lot of walking we did. We were given a river-view room on the second floor with a fantastic vista of Tbilisi Old City as well as the Mother of Georgia statue (see attached photo with view from our room. The building structure is somewhat old but very well maintained, and all the facilities in our room were in good working conditions. Love the high ceiling.
The staff members were all very cordial and helpful. The breakfast choices were a bit limited but adequate.
What could be improved: Our room was at the end of the building and adjacent to a restaurant with live music. This did not really bother us at all, but I am making a note here for those who may be sensitive to this sort of thing.Wonderful – Radoslaw from Poland – June 8, 2025 (9/10)
I had a wonderful stay at Old Metekhi Hotel in Tbilisi. The location is fantastic, providing easy access to many of the city's main attractions. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, ensuring a relaxing experience. The staff was friendly and always willing to help, making me feel welcome and well taken care of. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Tbilisi!
Very nice and cosy hotel with great location and beautiful views from the comfortable room! – Slovakflight from Sweden – April 27, 2025 (10/10)
This was my second stay in this hotel and yes, I have fallen in love with it. The staff is always very friendly and ready to help, the room is outstanding with all facilities you may need, including a very spacious balcony (with chairs and a table) with a beautiful view over Tbilisi old town, Kura river and Nariqala fortress. I also like the spacious bathroom and that the room has a fridge and tea-making facilities. Wi-fi works without any problems, too. Location is very good, just a few minutes walk from Avlabari metro station (and you will pass a supermarket, wine shops and friendly restaurants). I hope I can return to sunny Georgia in the future and stay at this very nice and cosy hotel again!
