Old City Apartment Overview
I first stumbled upon the Old City Apartment while wandering through the winding streets of Tbilisi, a city that never stops talking, even when you’re just strolling past a bakery that smells like fresh khachapuri. The building itself is a modest, two‑story block on Aleqsandre Diuma Street, and the front desk is managed by a young woman named Nino who greets you with that warm, familiar smile you get when you bump into a friend in the market. Check‑in was surprisingly quick—she had a digital tablet, scanned my passport, and handed me a key card with a little sticker that read “Welcome to Old City.” I mean, honestly, that’s the kind of personal touch you’ll find in the heart of the city, not in a corporate chain.
The apartment feels like a small, well‑thought‑out loft. The living area is cozy, with a low‑profile sofa that’s actually comfortable enough to nap on after a long day. The kitchenette is compact but functional—there’s a kettle, a small fridge, and a few basic utensils, which is perfect if you’re planning to whip up some tea or a quick bowl of pasta. The bathroom is a bit on the smaller side, but the shower has a great flow and the tiles are bright enough that the space doesn’t feel cramped. I noticed a small potted plant on the windowsill, which adds a touch of greenery and a little bit of that local vibe. If you’re a night owl, the windows face a side street that can get noisy during the early morning hours when the metro’s screeching trains pass by, but the building’s walls are decent, so it’s not an absolute nightmare.
What really sets this place apart is the neighborhood. From the balcony you can hear the distant hum of traffic and the occasional shout from a vendor selling traditional Georgian sweets. A short walk leads you to the Metekhi Church and the usual crowd of both locals and tourists—so you’re never really alone. There’s a small park called Vake Park a block away where you can sit on a bench, sip your coffee, and watch the city’s rhythm. The parking is a bit of a hassle; there’s no dedicated lot, so you’ll need to hunt for a street spot, but the city’s parking meters are easy to use and the rates are reasonable. If you’re traveling during the spring or fall when the crowds are thinner, the streets are quieter and you get to enjoy that quiet morning walk that feels like a secret. On the flip side, if you’re in the city during the summer rush, the heat can be a bit intense, especially in the afternoons, so an extra fan or a window with a breeze can make all the difference.
All in all, the Old City Apartment feels like a slice of everyday Tbilisi—no frills, but a lot of character. The staff’s friendly vibe, the practical layout, and the genuine sense of place make it a solid choice for any traveler looking to immerse themselves in the local scene without the hustle of a big hotel. If you’re planning a visit, I’d recommend booking early, especially if you want a room with a view of the street (they’re surprisingly good at letting you enjoy the city’s symphony). The only real downside is the parking, but even that is manageable if you’re willing to walk a few blocks. For the price, the value is hard to beat, and honestly, you’ll leave with a good story about the city that feels like home.
Hotels near me in Tbilisi offer convenient access to the ancient center, where guests can easily walk to sulfur baths, Peace Bridge, and traditional wine cellars.

Reviews of Old City Apartment
We had a wonderful stay at this apartment in Tbilisi! The host is incredibly friendly and makes you feel truly welcome f – Mona from United Arab Emirates – August 9, 2025 (9/10)
Host is very friendly and the location is amazing
What could be improved: It was all goodWonderful – Nicolette from Kuwait – January 3, 2025 (9/10)
Loved the location, the spacious room.
What could be improved: The bedroom could maybe have a standing lamp in the corner and another bedside lamp due to it being so dark.Home comfort, peace, and authenticity in the heart of the Old City – Catriona from United Kingdom – October 28, 2024 (10/10)
This property, in a traditional house with courtyard at the back of Freedom Square, gives you both the support and hospitality of homestay and the benefits of independence. The hosts live in the next-door house and are always available if needed (for instance, they changed sheets and towels half-way through our stay and also turned on the heating/provided fuel for the fire when the Tbilisi October turned as cold and wet as anything Britain could manage at the same time of year). Keto also kindly showed us, on the first day, where to buy produce and puri bread straight out of a wood-fired oven (in an alleyway off Giorgi Leonidze – there are also supermarkets within 2-5 minutes for groceries etc.) The property is renovated, extremely spacious (two rooms of about 25-30 metres) and has its own terrace. You are surrounded by Tbilisians and the street still has quite a lot of residents – unusual in the old city, which has been overdeveloped for tourists in some places (particularly Shavteli street). At the same time, Kote Aphazi and Dadiani and the streets around them are packed with bars and cafes (for instance, the excellent Daily Grind about a minute away from the flat). You may get a bit of street noise on the evenings of Friday/Saturday, but it dies down by 10-11 pm. There is a metro station under 10 minutes away and many bus routes. The kitchen is generously equipped with saucepans etc. that are actually useful – not a job lot from IKEA with two wooden spoons and one blunt knife as so often. If you need anything else, household shops all over the city (try round Dezerter, also an unmissable large produce market) will provide it at low cost. We loved everything about our stay! If you want designer chic, stay in Rooms Hotel or similar, but here you'll have an authentic Tbilisi home.
What could be improved: These are not criticisms, but UK guests might like to take a sink plug as there isn't one and they are difficult or impossible to buy. Also, when booking a lift from the airport, be aware that Aleqsandre Diuma Street is closed to traffic, so you will need to walk the last 50 metres (and pickups should be booked from no. 2 Aleqsandre Diuma and not no. 12). Drivers in Tbilisi are uniformly prepared to help with luggage and in locating the hosts with the key (they live in the next-door property and Mariam, who handles bookings, will send you a contact number).Perfect inside, scary outside – Evelina from Italy – July 11, 2024 (8/10)
The apartment is clean, nice and cosy. you have everything you need inside. The host is super generous and nice… best location you can imagine.
What could be improved: The inside yard is different from pictures its packed with old crap and looks quite scary…The first impression when you arrive is quite a shock!
full of mosquitoes (in the yard there is some old stuff full of old rain water, perfect home for them!)… once you are inside, all is perfectReally wonderful stay, thank you! – George from Belgium – July 9, 2024 (9/10)
Location was wonderful, in an quiet and atmospheric old street just by Liberty Square. Mariam's mum was very friendly and let us in very easily. She didn't speak English, but does speak German and I think Russian? The apartment was spacious and light and it was nice to have the balcony.
Georgian Tale from Duma Street – Lara from Russia – March 20, 2024 (9/10)
Great location! Comfortable conditions, artistic and inspiring atmosphere 💙
Everything is clean, new and the apartment is very comfy!
The living room has a beautiful fireplace, I sincerely enjoyed kindling a fire there and gazing at the tongues of flame.
Also my daughter fell in love with adorable cats nearby – they’re so cute and she was melted by love!
Hostess is really sweet and kind! She helped us with all of our questions and we’re very thankful! ☺️ She also gifted us a natural Georgian black tea and it tastes great 🙂
Thank you a lot for a friendly welcome! I definitely would love to come here again!
What could be improved: There’s nothing much to say as everything was nice! But if you have any troubles with anything, just know the hostess will gladly help you! ☺️Touch the history – Waleed from Ukraine – July 23, 2023 (9/10)
Amazing location in the old town, everything is near by. The hostess is very pleasant lady, very helpful, always reachable. The apartment has everything necessary. We enjoyed our stay very much.
What could be improved: There were moskitoes, be ready for them, as yard is covered with grapes leaves, always in the shade.Very nice appartment in the very centre of the old town – Tim from Denmark – July 15, 2023 (9/10)
Nice appartement in the centre of the old town
What could be improved: Everything you need in the appartment. Very nice little terrace where you can sit outside and Eat your breakfast.. Etc.Wonderful stay. – Kseniya from United States – September 5, 2022 (10/10)
The apartment is very clean, spacious and well maintained. Its located centrally. We loved the balcony and the yard. We would love to stay there again!
What could be improved: nothingQuiet, charming that in the old town. – Rebecca from United Kingdom – May 25, 2024 (10/10)
The location, the comfy bed with the softest sheets in the world (!), washing machine, quiet despite being in a busy area, the garden and balcony perfect for drinking coffee, the quirky nature of the whole apartment which had a shabby charm. Lots of cats around…if you are a cat lover, bring Dreamies!
What could be improved: No bedside lamps and the light switch was by the door. But this is a minor quibble, and doesn’t warrant marking down of the property. We would definitely stay again!
