Metekhi Line Hotel Overview

Tbilisi is a city that keeps you glued to its cobblestones, and the Metekhi Line Hotel sits right where the old meets the new, on 29 Ioseb Grishashvili St. I remember stepping out of the hotel and feeling the damp, warm air of the evening, the faint scent of roasted chestnuts wafting from a nearby street vendor—there’s something about that city that makes you feel like you’re in a living postcard.

The first thing that hits you is the check‑in. The front desk is staffed by a guy named Giorgi who greets you with a grin so wide it practically says, “you’re home.” He offers a free map of the Old Town, and you can almost see the way he’d be looking at you if you were a tourist. Honestly, the welcome ritual feels like a hug from a friend, not a corporate script. The lobby is cozy; a mix of vintage Georgian decor and modern touches, with a fireplace that crackles softly, making it a perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploring.

You’ll notice the hotel’s name, Metekhi Line, is a nod to the Metekhi Bridge that’s just a stone’s throw away. The bridge is a favorite among locals for sunset photos, and the hotel’s windows actually frame a stunning view of the river and the cathedral silhouette. The rooms themselves are spacious, with high ceilings that make you feel like you’re in a loft in the capital. The bed has that particular mattress that’s firm yet forgiving—just the right balance for a traveller who’s already had a long day of walking. The bath is another highlight; the steam is thick and smells like eucalyptus, making you feel like you’ve stepped into a spa. (I really liked the shower head’s spray pattern; it’s powerful but not harsh.)

Parking is a bit of a hassle, honestly. The hotel does provide a valet service, but it’s only available during the day, so if you’re arriving late, you’ll need to park somewhere else—there’s a small paid lot on the street with a coin machine, but the prices are a bit steep. Noise is mostly limited to the city’s nightlife; the hotel is pretty well insulated, so you can sleep through the occasional traffic hum. If you’re a night owl, the city’s restaurant scene gets lively around 8 pm, and you can hear the distant chatter of people ordering khinkali.

For breakfast, the hotel offers a buffet that’s surprisingly good—think fresh yogurt, homemade cheese, and a selection of pastries that are soft and melt in your mouth. I took a panini with local cheese and it was the highlight of my morning. The staff is friendly and always ready to recommend a place for lunch. I asked for a spot that’s off the beaten path, and they pointed me toward a small café on Shota Rustaveli Street, where the owner knows my name after I commented on his apple cake.

Overall, Metekhi Line Hotel feels like a home base that’s not too touristy but still close enough to everything. If you’re planning to wander the old streets, you’ll find that the hotel’s location is perfect for a quick nap before heading back out. The only thing that could be better is a more robust parking solution, but the rest of the experience is solid and genuinely welcoming. You get the vibe of a place that’s proud of its heritage and excited to share it with travelers. So, if you’re looking for a blend of comfort, local charm, and a dash of Georgian hospitality, this hotel gets the job done—no frills, just real experiences.

Reviews of Metekhi Line Hotel

  • great views in old Tbilisi, clean rooms, poor breakfast – Alina from United Kingdom – September 2, 2025 (8/10)

This understated hotel has stupendous panoramic views from its spacious terraces, clean and comfortable rooms and is well located in old Tbilisi, a quiet area but close to main attractions. Overall good value for money.

What could be improved: The breakfast was poor with cheap supermarket bread and reduced variety of foods. The female member of staff in the breakfast room did not respond to us greeting her and was very indifferent. If the hotel could improve the quality of breakfast we would stay there again.
