Manana House Overview
I spent a week in Tbilisi last spring, and the first thing that hit me when I stepped into the lobby of Manana House was that old, warm smell of fresh coffee that somehow made me feel like I was back in my grandmother’s kitchen—only, this time, it was a luxury hotel, not a kitchen. The room itself is modest, but the corner sofa faces a window that looks out over the streets of Mtatsminda, and you can hear the distant hum of traffic below, mixed with the occasional bark of a stray dog or the whistle of a tram. I mean, the noise level is pretty decent for a 4‑star spot—quiet enough to sleep, but you’re still in the thick of the city’s pulse. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, with a mattress that had just the right amount of springy support, so I woke up feeling like I had actually slept.
Check‑in was a breeze, honestly. The front desk staff were friendly but not overly chatty, which is perfect for people who just want to get to their room and not spend a half‑hour chatting about the weather. The only thing that threw me off was the Wi‑Fi password—it was printed on a sticky note that stuck to the desk, but it was a bit cramped, so I had to squint to read it. The internet speed was decent, though during peak hours (late afternoon to early evening) it slowed down a bit, which is something to keep in mind if you’re planning to stream videos or work on a tight deadline. Parking is a bit of a hassle; the hotel itself doesn’t have its own space, so you’re looking at a garage a block away, and it’s usually full on weekends. But hey, you can always walk down the cobblestone streets of downtown and grab a coffee at a local café—KTSB, for instance, is a short walk away and has the best espresso I’ve ever tasted.
The real charm of Manana House is how it bridges the gap between the old and the new. The décor is a mix of Georgian antiques and contemporary art, and the lobby is lit by a stunning chandelier that looks like it’s been plucked straight from the 19th century. I found myself lingering over a framed print of a 1920s Tbilisi street—such a nostalgic touch. The restaurant on the second floor offers a menu that feels like a love letter to Georgian cuisine, with the khinkali and khachapuri that you’d only find in a local family kitchen. The portion size is generous, and the flavors are authentic. The only downside is that the seating is a bit cramped, so it can feel a little crowded during lunch hour. If you’re a foodie, you’ll also want to check out the nearby Mtatsminda Park for a sunset walk—there’s a small café by the park’s edge that serves homemade jam and fresh bread, and the view of the city at dusk is worth the extra 10 minutes of travel.
One thing I’d mention for future travelers: the hotel’s location is great, but be prepared for the traffic noise that comes with being in the heart of Tbilisi. If you’re sensitive to noise, I’d suggest pulling the blinds and maybe bringing earplugs. There’s also a small, well‑maintained garden at the back of the property that’s perfect for a quick morning stretch or a late‑night coffee—just the sort of quiet spot where you can actually hear your own thoughts. The staff are generally helpful, but if you’re staying during the busy summer months, be ready for a slightly longer wait for your room to be ready. On the bright side, the staff’s knowledge of the city is top‑notch—they can recommend the best hidden gems in the area, from a tiny art gallery tucked behind a bakery to a rooftop bar with a panoramic view of the city’s skyline.
All in all, Manana House feels like a warm, well‑timed pause in a long journey. It’s not a super‑luxury hotel, but it has enough charm, comfort, and local flair to make you feel at home. I’ll definitely be back when I visit Tbilisi again—maybe next time I’ll bring my friends and we’ll explore more of the city’s hidden corners, sharing stories over a pot of Georgian tea in the hotel’s cozy lounge. The experience was genuinely memorable, and I only wish the Wi‑Fi speed had been a tad faster during the late‑afternoon rush. But honestly, for a traveler who wants a mix of authenticity and comfort, this place is a solid pick.
