I dropped by the Mais Guest House on a rainy Thursday, and the first thing that caught my eye was the old Soviet-era facade—gritty, but somehow comforting. The front desk was a pair of retirees who greeted me with a smile that said, “We’ve seen everything, but you’re still welcome.” The check‑in was quick; they handed me a key card with a little sticky note that read “Welcome to Vake—enjoy the garden.” (I mean, that’s a nice touch, right?) The lobby itself is a mix of reclaimed wood and mismatched chairs, a vibe that feels like a cozy apartment rather than a hotel.

Walking into my room, I was hit by a soft, citrus scent that came from a small diffuser the staff left behind—think oranges mixed with a hint of bergamot. The bed was surprisingly plush, and the mattress had this springy, almost springy feel that made it easy to drift off after a long day of exploring. I took a moment to sit on the balcony and listen to the distant hum of traffic on the avenue, while the street vendors outside were shouting about fresh khinkali and warm chai. The floor‑to‑ceiling windows gave me a great view of the Vake Park, a quiet green oasis that’s perfect for a morning jog or a sunset stroll. Parking is a breeze—you can pull into the building’s underground lot for a small fee, and there’s also a street‑side spot right next to the building if you’re in a hurry. I stopped by the small coffee shop on the corner of Ilia Chavchavadze and had a latte that was just the right bitterness to wake me up.

The only downside? The noise from the avenue can be a bit intrusive at night, especially if you’re a light sleeper. I found myself listening to the distant traffic, birds, and occasional sirens. But honestly, the staff are quick to offer earplugs and a quiet room if you’re struggling. They’re friendly, too—one of them shared that the building used to house a cinema back in the 1970s, which is a neat piece of trivia. The breakfast spread on the terrace was simple: fresh fruit, yogurt, a variety of cheeses, and a selection of local pastries that were still warm from the oven. It wasn’t fancy, but it was satisfying, especially after a day of walking around the neighborhood.   Fantastic room. Very clean. Great workspace, and had everything I needed.
  
  What could be improved: The location is not very close to Tbilisi old town, but buses are very convenient from there.

  We have booked two rooms in this 3-room apartment, and both rooms were very clean and tidy, with a beautiful balcony where one could enjoy morning coffee. Every necessary facility was available, such as hot water, a washing machine, TV set with a variety of TV channels, free Wi-Fi, etc. The location was very nice, with lots of cafes and restaurants all around. What I particularly liked was the smooth communication with the host. I definitely recommend this place.
  
  What could be improved: There was nothing I disliked. Just be aware that there are three rooms located adjacently.

  Very cozy room, it feels more like your own home in the heart of Tbilisi! A huge balcony, a smell of cinnamon every morning from a local bakery, and a small common kitchen and washing machine are also available.
  
  What could be improved: Nothing, perhaps the entrance to the building should be renovated and the lighting should be fixed, but this is the responsibility of local utilities company, not the apartment's owner.
