Layla’s Apartment Overview
I first stumbled onto Layla’s Apartment while wandering down 1 Merab Mamardashvili Street, and honestly, the moment I saw the little wooden sign that read “Layla’s Apartment” I felt that kind of warm, almost conspiratorial welcome you get in a neighborhood that’s been around since the Soviet era. Tbilisi itself is a mosaic of old stone and new buzz, and this place sits smack in the middle of Chugureti, close enough to the river to hear the Gorgasali waterwheel at dawn (if you’re lucky and the wind is just right). The building is a modest pre‑war apartment block, but the lobby has this quirky mosaic that Layla herself designed—think bright blues and gold leaf. It’s not a hotel in the traditional sense, which is part of the charm: you’re not in a chain hotel, you’re in a real home with a history.
The room itself is a generous mix of rustic and modern. I mean, there’s a small kitchenette with a single‑handle stove, a tiny fridge that’s surprisingly adequate, and a 55‑inch flat‑screen that comes pre‑loaded with local streaming services. The bed—yes, a queen—has a memory foam mattress that feels like it was made just for you, and the sheets are crisp, white, almost too clean, like the laundry room at the end of the block. A small balcony offers a view of Ardoni street, and at night, the streetlights flicker like fireflies. Noise is a factor; the apartment is close to a main road, but the double‑glazed windows keep most traffic at bay, and the only occasional hiss you hear is the old radiator coughing in winter. If you’re a light sleeper, it’s best to arrive after 10 pm—traffic dies down, and the city’s hum turns into a gentle lullaby. Check‑in is a quick, friendly affair: Layla herself pops by, hands you a keycard, and gives you a rundown of the neighborhood in a mix of Georgian and English—no touristy spiel, just practical tips. I asked about parking, and she mentioned that there’s a municipal lot a block away that’s free for a few hours, or you can opt for the paid garage on 2nd Street if you’re not driving. The apartment has a small storage locker, which is handy if you’re only staying a few nights. Laundry? You’ll find a laundromat on 2nd Street, and if you need anything else—like a second set of towels—you just knock on the door and Layla will swing by in a couple of minutes.
What really seals the deal is the neighborhood. Chugureti is a stone’s throw from the Tbilisi Opera House, but more importantly, it’s a great spot for foodies. I walked over to a tiny café on 3rd Street that serves the best khachapuri you’ll ever taste—the cheese is so creamy you’ll want to lick the spoon. There’s also a small market on Merab Mamardashvili Street where you can buy fresh herbs, pick up a loaf of sourdough, and chat with the vendors who will give you insider tips on the best hidden gems. If you’re into nightlife, the bars on 4th Street have a more laid‑back vibe than the overly touristy spots on Rustaveli. I noticed that the best time to visit is early spring or late autumn: the city is less crowded, the temperatures are mild, and you can wander through the streets without the summer heat or the winter chill. In summer, the noise from the nearby metro station and the occasional street festival can be a bit much, but if you’re up for the energy, it’s part of the city’s pulse. All in all, Layla’s Apartment feels like a home away from home, with a touch of Georgian hospitality that makes you feel like you’re a part of the neighborhood rather than just a tourist passing through.
Hotels in Tbilisi offer visitors the opportunity to stay in the heart of this Caucasian gem, with easy access to museums, thermal baths, and traditional restaurants.

A little bit tricky to find but just call the host for an easy 24-hour flexible check-in 🙂 Otherwise, it's a super comfy room, a great shared kitchen and washing machine to use, and overall just terrific value for money.

The room was really very clean and had everything you may need, the location was perfect for me. It is located in a quiet inner courtyard, so you're protected from the street noise. Also I was pleasantly surprised to see cotton sheets, it's quite rare and important for me. The property has a very cosy patio too.
