Hotel Afisha Overview

I was in Tbilisi last month, wandering through the cobblestone lanes of the Old Town when I stumbled across Hotel Afisha. The building itself is that quirky mix of Soviet-era brickwork and a splash of modern color that locals like to call “the little pop of in the gray city.” The lobby is surprisingly cozy, with a soft jazz playlist that never quite overpowers the chatter of other guests. I had to pause for a moment to take in the mural on the wall—an abstract map of Tbilisi with the main streets in bold, a little nod to the city’s own history that instantly felt like a secret handshake.

Check‑in was a bit of a slow dance: the front desk staff were friendly, but the line was longer than I expected during the tourist rush in June. The receptionist offered a quick tour of the hotel amenities, but I could already see that the Wi‑Fi speed on the upper floors would be a bit sluggish, especially during the night shift. The room itself was a neat 16 square meters, with a balcony that looked out over a quiet courtyard where the scent of blooming roses mingles with the faint whisper of a distant stone fountain. The bed was surprisingly plush, and the linens had a subtle scent of lavender—apparently it’s a local tradition to add a touch of scent to bedding. The bathroom was a small, efficient space with a rain shower that hit the right spot. The only downside? The noise from Petre Melikishvili Street—especially during the late afternoon—can be a bit piercing if your windows are left open. But the hotel offers a small, weather‑proof soundproofing curtain that makes a world of difference.

Parking is a bit of a challenge. The building doesn’t have a dedicated car park, so I had to find a spot on the street. The local “free” parking zones can be a nightmare—lots of meters, but the city’s enforcement is strict, and you might get a ticket if you’re not careful. If you’re traveling with a car, it’s best to park at the nearby public lot just a block away; it’s a quick walk and the staff there are usually helpful with directions. For those traveling on foot, the hotel is literally on the doorstep of Rustaveli Avenue, just a 5‑minute stroll to the Opera House, the bustling Tbilisi Market, and the iconic sulfur baths. I found myself venturing out to the nearby café on Shota Rustaveli Street for a steaming cup of Georgian coffee—rich, dark, and a little sweet—just before heading to the hotel’s rooftop terrace for sunset. The terrace, while not huge, offers a panoramic view that’s worth the effort. You can see the city’s skyline, the winding river, and the distant hills that hug the city, all bathed in that golden hour glow.

What really made the stay memorable was the staff’s genuine enthusiasm. The concierge, a young Georgian woman named Nino, was quick to recommend a hidden gem—a small, family‑run restaurant on Sioni Street that serves the best khinkali (dumplings) I’ve ever tasted. She even helped me find a route to avoid the main traffic jam on the evening of my departure. Local tips like these are exactly what turns a standard hotel stay into a travel story. There were a few minor critiques—the room’s air conditioning unit was a bit loud at night, and the bathroom tiles could use a touch of polish—but honestly, those little quirks hardly mattered when the overall experience was so warm and welcoming. If you’re looking for a place that feels like a home away from home, with easy access to the city’s cultural hotspots and a staff that actually knows the ins and outs of Tbilisi, Hotel Afisha is definitely worth a stay.

Reviews of Hotel Afisha

  • Exceptional – Katerina from Georgia – August 30, 2025 (10/10)

    Restaurants and spa are amazing

  • Trendy Tbilisi – Lauren from United Kingdom – August 28, 2025 (10/10)

Cool design, centrally located – great

  • it's fine – Boris from Russia – August 23, 2025 (8/10)

The hotel is new, with a good design and staff

What could be improved: The smoking area is located next to the entrance, and the stench of smoking was present in the lobby and the restaurant
    The restaurant is organized unprofessionally

  • Very lovely stay – Olga from Ukraine – August 21, 2025 (9/10)

Very nice thematic hotel, nice location and friendly staff. We also managed to enjoy spa facilities – which was really nice and relaxing.

What could be improved: The food at the restaurant was delicious, but to have more options with Georgian food would be great:)

  • Like being at an an old cinema – Joseph from Germany – August 20, 2025 (10/10)

    Amazing

What could be improved: The intense parfum they use to make the lobby smell nice

  • Nice experience ,highly recommended ,every hotel should be design with taste like this one. – Joseph from Germany – August 17, 2025 (8/10)

The rooms are ,well my room was small but beautifully decorated ,the designer has great taste and fantasy, blending in retro with a modern touch. Giving parts of the hotel the feeling you’re either at the backstage of a theater or in old cinema .

What could be improved: The service can definetely improve . The chef at breakfast every morning was amazing,he speaks great english and gave me more then i asked for ,cooked the eggs how i like them and explaind every dish with pride he had prepared . On the otherhand the girls in the breakfast lounge have no idea about service . You have to figure out yourself how things work in that hall. I guess they havent been trained to work in hotels . But for that high level of hotel you would expect that .
The hotel is kept perfumed or better well perfumed all the time which is nice. I bit too intense ,to my taste .

  • Exceptional – Saltanat from Kazakhstan – August 15, 2025 (10/10)

We stayed at Afisha Hotel and were absolutely impressed! 💫 From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm smiles, helped with our luggage, and instantly felt genuine Georgian hospitality.

The hotel is new, impeccably clean, and beautifully designed. The SPA area features a huge jacuzzi, and the water pressure is simply perfect! Air conditioners work flawlessly, and breakfast — while not extensive — offers everything you could wish for, all of excellent quality.

Special thanks for the attention to detail — the bathrobes are soft, cozy, and available in all sizes, even for very tall guests (my husband was delighted 😉).

We had originally booked two small standard rooms, but upon arrival, we decided to upgrade. To our surprise, the hotel offered us a large room at the same price as on Booking.

Service is truly outstanding — the staff go above and beyond. A special shoutout to George (aka Tsitsika “agent of chaos” 😄) for his help, humor, and great vibes!

We were sad to leave and would have loved to stay longer. Thank you to the entire Afisha Hotel team for creating such a warm and welcoming atmosphere! ❤️

  • The best hotel in Tbilisi – Alexandra from Bulgaria – July 27, 2025 (10/10)

The hotel was amazing! I still don’t get why it’s not rated the best hotel in Tbilisi. The interior is so stylish, modern, cinema-themed. I loved the room, it was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was great, tasty. We also enjoyed the spa with jacuzzi and sauna.
