Home in the Old City Center, Presidential Area Overview

I found myself on a rainy Thursday in Tbilisi, pulling the suitcase out of the car and stepping onto 23 Atoneli Street. The building looks like a Victorian relic, but the inside is all about that 1920s charm with a modern twist. The lobby is dimly lit, with a mix of antique brass fixtures and a weirdly comforting smell of old wood and fresh coffee that you only get in places where people actually care about the atmosphere. The front desk was run by a woman named Nino, who greeted me with a grin that felt less like a scripted smile and more like a genuine “welcome to the neighborhood.”

The rooms themselves are surprisingly spacious for a four‑star. The double bed is huge, covered in a crisp white duvet that practically screams “sleep here.” I noticed a small balcony tucked in the corner that overlooks the street. It was a bit noisy at first—honestly, the traffic’s a constant hum—but by the time I settled in, my ears had adapted, and I felt more like I was in a cozy apartment than a hotel. The bathroom had a decent shower, and the toiletries were local, scented with sandalwood and something that reminded me of the Georgian apricot orchards. I could really feel the local vibe in those little details.

Parking was a bit of a game. There’s a narrow street behind the hotel, but it’s mostly for residents, so I ended up using a small paid garage a block away. The price was reasonable, and the attendants were friendly, which is a relief for someone who doesn’t like digging through a handful of receipts. The noise level is moderate overall. The hotel is tucked between a bakery that opens at 5 a.m. and a coffee shop that never seems to close, so there’s always a hum of people and the occasional street performer. If you’re an early bird, you’ll hear the clatter of pots and pans from the bakery, which is oddly comforting. If you’re a night owl,’ll hear cicadas and the distant bass from a nearby club—small, but not overpowering.

The check‑in experience was smooth. The staff were efficient but not robotic. They handed me a key card with a little handwritten note that said, “Enjoy your stay!” and an extra charge for the parking. I appreciated the personal touch. They also pointed out the best spots to hit: the Mtatsminda Park for a sunset view, the old theater on Rustaveli Avenue, and a hidden gem— a little tea house on Samgori Street that serves the best khinkali. They told me that the best time to visit the park is early evening, when the noise from the city drops and the air smells like fresh pine. I took that advice and it was worth it, honestly.

When the season rolls around, you’ll notice the hotel’s vibe shift. In summer, the street is bustling, and the noise ramps up, but the staff keep the place calm. In winter, the foot traffic slows, and you can actually hear your own thoughts over the faint sound of the metro. The hotel itself doesn’t change much, but the city does, and that’s exactly what makes staying here a real experience. The staff remember your name after just one night, and the little touches— a warm mug of tea for the morning, a handwritten note with a local market recommendation— make you feel like a regular, not a tourist.

Overall, if you’re looking for a place in Tbilisi that feels like a home rather than a cardboard box, this spot hits the mark. It’s not flashy or over-the-top, but it’s authentic, with a few thoughtful details that show the staff actually know the city and care about their guests. You’ll leave with a sense of having lived in the city for a day, not just visited it.

To book hotel in Tbilisi during the famous Tbilisi Jazz Festival season, visitors should make reservations well in advance as the city attracts wine enthusiasts and cultural travelers from around the world.

Reviews of Home in the Old City Center, Presidential Area

  • Very Good – Boris from United Arab Emirates – July 5, 2025 (8/10)

What could be improved: Complicated payment procedure

  • Pleasant – Chongmei from Georgia – November 9, 2024 (6/10)

What could be improved: Everything was great with the accommodation, warm rooms, fully equipped kitchen, and excellent location. Besides the disappointing cleanliness of the bed, there is a lot of hair on it, like left by the previous guest, which is unbearable. I had to buy bed sheets and blankets from a nearby supermarket in order to stay. Next time, please pay attention to the cleanliness of the bed.
