Hermes Apartment Overview

I found the Hermes Apartment in the heart of Tbilisi, tucked between the bustling market stalls of Mtatsminda and the quieter, tree‑lined streets of Dzmebi Zubalashvili. The first thing that hit me was the smell of fresh coffee drifting from the little café on the corner—honestly, that aroma alone said, “Welcome to home.” You know what, the building itself feels like a slice of old Georgian architecture, with its stone façade and the tiny balcony that looks out over the city’s peppered rooftops. When you step inside, the first floor is all about that old‑world charm: exposed wooden beams, a hand‑painted mural from a local artist, and the faint hum of the metro line below. The check‑in was surprisingly smooth; the staff asked if you’d like a quick tour of the neighborhood before handing over the key—something I appreciate when you’re jet‑lagged and just want to know where the best spots are.

The rooms are a mix of cozy and functional. The master bedroom has this huge window that frames the sunrise over the Caucasus, and the bathroom—well, it’s a bit small but it’s spotless, with a deep‑shower that’s practically a spa when the city’s heat gets to you. I like that they’ve put in a small fridge and a kettle, because you’re not going to want to wait for the restaurant to open just to have a hot cup of tea. For a 4‑star rating, the small balcony is a bonus; you can sit there, sip the local kvevri wine, and listen to the morning traffic of buses and scooters—it’s noisy but in that way, it feels like you’re right in the middle of the action. The only critique I have is that the foot traffic from the metro station can be loud at night, so if you’re a light sleeper, you might want to bring earplugs.

Parking is a real deal in this part of Tbilisi—there’s a little garage just a block away that’s open 24/7, and the staff will even help you find a spot if you’re not sure where to go. I took advantage of that on my second night; the parking fee was reasonable, and I never had to worry about finding a street spot. Another thing that caught my eye was the local street performers on the square outside the building. On weekends, you’ll hear a violinist play “Tbilisuri Kakh,” and the whole block comes alive with people dancing and laughing. The noise level is high, but it’s the kind of energy that makes you feel like you’re part of the community, not just a tourist.

When it comes to dining, you’re literally steps away from a mix of places that cater to both locals and visitors. From a traditional khachapuri shop by the corner to a modern bistro that serves grilled fish with a side of Georgian yogurt, there’s something for every palate. I took advantage of the early morning market on the street—fresh fruits, pastries, and the famous Georgian honey. The staff at Hermes also gave me a map of the best coffee spots, and I found a hidden gem just a few minutes away that serves the best espresso in town. For anyone who likes to wander, the streets of Dzmebi Zubalashvili are lined with small boutiques and craft shops; you’ll find unique souvenirs and handmade jewelry that you can’t get in the big malls.

Overall, Hermes Apartment feels like a warm hug in the middle of a city that’s constantly moving. It’s not the most upscale spot, but it’s honest, comfortable, and really practical for travelers who want to experience Tbilisi like a local. If you’re planning a trip during the busy spring or early summer, expect the area to be lively; the noise will be higher, but the energy is contagious. If you prefer quieter nights, I suggest booking a room on a higher floor or asking for a room away from the metro line—trust me, the difference is like night and day. In short, stay here, and you’ll get a genuine slice of Georgian hospitality, the kind that makes you want to return again and again.
