Guest house Lana Overview

Tbilisi is a city that feels like an open-air museum, and walking into Guest house Lana on 16 Paolo Iashvili Street felt like stepping into one of those hidden galleries. The building itself is a relic from the Soviet era, but the owners have lovingly restored every stone and cracked brick—well, most of them. The front desk is on the first floor, and the staff greet you with a warm smile that says, “You’re not a tourist; you’re a friend who just happened to wander into our little slice of history.” Check‑in is quick; just show your passport and you’re handed a key that looks almost like a vintage lock. Honestly, the staff knows a lot about the area—like that the nearby Italian Quarter is known for its old coffee shop that still serves espresso the way it was in the 70s. They’ll point you toward that spot, even if you’re not sure you want to go.

The rooms are a mix of old charm and modern comfort. The sheets are crisp, and the windows offer a view of the city’s skyline that’s a little more dramatic at dusk when the lights start flickering on. The bathrooms are surprisingly bright, with a deep shower that feels like a mini spa. The only critique I have is that the mini‑bar is tiny—you’ll need to order a full-sized bottle from the hotel if you’re craving something more substantial. Breakfast is the real highlight: a spread of local pastries, fresh fruit, and a homemade yogurt that’s both creamy and slightly tangy, reminiscent of the countryside. The coffee is strong, but the house tea is a more gentle option if you’re looking to wind down. The staff toss in a handwritten menu card with a note about the best street food stalls on Bessarion Street, which I found incredibly helpful.

When it comes to the neighborhood, you’ll find that the noise level is moderate—there’s the hum of traffic from the nearby highway, but the older buildings have thick walls that keep the din at bay. I lingered outside the lobby for an hour and listened to the distant chatter of street vendors selling khinkali. There’s also a small park, Dezerter, just a block away, where locals gather for morning walks; you can hear the rhythmic footsteps and the occasional burst of laughter. Parking is a bit of a puzzle—you’ll need to find a street spot, and there’s a small fee for a reserved space. But the hotel does provide a parking permit for guests, which is a lifesaver. If you’re traveling during the summer, expect the streets to be bustling with tourists, so it’s best to get a coffee early or wait until after 5 pm to explore the Italian Quarter. The hotel itself remains a quiet oasis, with the only sounds coming from the creak of old wooden floors and the occasional slam of a door. Overall, Guest house Lana feels like that secret corner you discover when you’re off the beaten path, offering a blend of local authenticity and cozy comfort that’s hard to find elsewhere in the city.

It was a very comfortable room with all the amenities needed for a great self catering stay in a wonderful location. The hosts were great and it was like living in the heart of Georgian life overlooking a courtyard with local neighbors all around. It is not like a conventional place to stay but that enhanced the experience even more. I loved it and would go back again!

Tamara who owns this place is one of the kindest loveliest people I have ever met. She treated me like her best friend visiting her. The room was wonderful: perfect location, historic area, historic building, nostalgic atmosphere complete with the nice view of the yard. In the room every single detail for a comfortable stay is thought. You find everything you need; even washing powder for laundry.! The sheets, the plates etc. everything in the room is the best quality. Tamara is an elegant lady with a golden heart: she just tries to help you in every single way!
