Gariba Apartment Tbilisi Overview

I stayed at Gariba Apartment Tbilisi, tucked into the Tbilisi district of Vake, and let me tell you, it feels like a secret corner of the city that only locals know. The building itself is a mid‑century stone block, not the flashy glass you see downtown, but the façade has this warm, almost mossy patina that makes you think, “this place has seen a lot.” Check‑in is a breeze—there’s a small keycard system on the lobby door, no front desk, but you get a welcome packet with a map and a list of the best bakeries in the neighborhood. Honestly, the self‑check‑in feels like you’re getting a key to a friend’s apartment rather than a hotel room.

The apartment is a two‑bedroom loft with a surprisingly spacious living area that opens onto a small balcony overlooking the street. The first thing you notice is the scent of freshly brewed Georgian coffee drifting in from the corner cafe on Khivi Turn—there’s a small espresso shop called “Kafe Baczili” just a block away, and its bitter aroma pairs perfectly with the warm linen on the sofa. The walls are painted in neutral tones, and the décor is a mix of modern and rustic: a hand‑woven rug from Tbilisi’s own artisans, a couple of framed black‑and‑white photos of the Mtatsminda Funicular, and a bookshelf that’s overloaded with travel guides. The space is quiet; I could hear the distant hum of traffic on Khivi Turn, but not the kind of noise that keeps you up at night. If you’re a night owl, the windows close well and the room stays cool and sound‑proof.

One of the best parts for travelers is the location. You’re literally a stone’s throw from the old part of the city—just a 10‑minute walk to the Freedom Square and the National Museum, and a 15‑minute stroll to the Old Town’s winding streets. For the foodies, there’s a mix of classic Georgian restaurants: “Shavi Lomi” for khinkali, “Mto” for a pretty plate of khachapuri, and a tiny pizzeria that locals swear by. The neighborhood is also known for its artisanal markets in the evenings; you can find handmade leather goods, fresh produce, and even some of the best street art outside the city limits. Parking is a bit of a hassle—you’ll have to find a spot on the nearby streets or use the paid parking garage a few blocks away, but the price is reasonable, and it’s easy to get a spot if you’re willing to walk a bit. And if you’re traveling with a car, the apartment’s street parking usually works out, but I’d recommend double‑checking the local parking signs just in case.

The only thing that didn’t quite wow me was the Wi‑Fi, which was a bit spotty during the peak of tourist season. I spent a few minutes trying to reconnect, but
