Gabi’s House Overview

I finally stayed at Gabi’s House in Tbilisi, and let me tell you, it felt like stepping into a storybook that’s seen a few generations. The building is a charming 1920s townhouse on Ietim‑Gurji Street, just a stone’s throw from the buzzing cafés on Baku Street. When I pushed the door open, the scent of fresh coffee and cardamom drifted in—an aroma that wraps the room in a warm, almost nostalgic embrace. The front desk was a pair of locals who greeted me with a grin, a quick “Welcome, friend!” and a handwritten note with the check‑in time that, honestly, was more flexible than I expected. The key was a small brass keychain that looked like it belonged in a museum, but it worked like a charm.

The room itself was a perfect blend of vintage and modern. The walls were painted in a muted teal, and the bed—oh, the bed!—was covered with a quilt that felt like a hug. The quilt was made from a local textile, and you could see the subtle embroidery that hints at regional patterns. I spent a good part of the afternoon reading the city guide Gabi had left on the desk, about the best spots to catch sunset from Mtatsminda Park. The balcony was a quiet haven; the city’s hum—cars, street vendors, distant church bells—was at a level where you could hear the wind. There was a small balcony lamp that gave off a soft amber light, and I could literally feel the chill of the evening air against my skin.

Breakfast was a revelation. Gabi, who’s a culinary enthusiast, had prepared a spread that included fresh Georgian sour dough, honeyed walnuts, and a selection of cheeses that were so locally sourced you could taste the mountain air. The tea was a robust black tea with a hint of mint—perfect for a mid‑morning pick‑up. I lingered at the balcony, sipping tea, watching the sunrise over the city’s old fortress. The noise level in the mornings was minimal, which is a big plus in a city that can get pretty lively after noon. On the downside—well, the only critique is that the Wi‑Fi can be spotty if you’re in the back corner, but that’s a minor hiccup for anyone who’s not a work traveler. Parking is a bit of a hassle; there’s no onsite spot, but a paid meter is just a block away, and I found a nice spot near the 5th Street metro.

All in all, Gabi’s House is more than a place to sleep; it’s a slice of Tbilisi that you can actually taste, feel, and hear. If you’re planning a trip during the shoulder seasons—late spring or early fall—you’ll find that the city is at its most vibrant, with the streets alive but not overwhelming. Even in peak summer, you can find a quiet corner for a midnight coffee at the neighboring tea house on Ietim‑Gurji. Trust me, staying here will give you that little edge of insider knowledge—like knowing the exact time the market closes or the best bench to watch the sunset over the Old City. So pack your bags, bring an extra sweater for the evenings, and get ready to fall in love with a city that feels like home.

Travelers should reserve a hotel in Tbilisi at least two months ahead for major events like wine festivals, ensuring the best rates and prime locations near cultural attractions.

Host VAKHO the care taker and the Land Lady both were very caring and helpful during the stay. also not very pushy to get the payment. they felt us relaxed and attended our every request immediately which was within their scope related to the accommodation. it was a nice, safe and comfortable stay

What could be improved: Older apartment, but it was priced accordingly/appropriately. No real issues at all.
