The location is honestly brilliant if you want to experience Tbilisi like a local rather than staying in the touristy Old Town bubble. Saburtalo has this great residential vibe where you’ll hear kids playing in the courtyards and smell someone’s grandmother cooking khachapuri from the neighboring apartments. The metro station is literally a three-minute walk, which saved me so much time getting around the city. Plus, there’s this little corner shop right downstairs where the owner – super friendly guy – helped me figure out which Georgian wine to buy (his recommendations were spot-on, by the way).

What I really appreciated were the thoughtful touches that you don’t always get with apartment rentals. The Wi-Fi is actually fast enough for video calls – I tested it extensively since I had to work a few mornings. The kitchen has everything you need if you want to cook, though honestly, with all the amazing restaurants nearby, I mostly just used it for coffee and storing leftovers. The bed is properly comfortable too, not one of those saggy mattresses you sometimes get stuck with. I’m a light sleeper and was worried about street noise, but the windows do a decent job blocking it out, especially at night when the neighborhood settles down. The only minor thing – and this is really nitpicking – is that the shower pressure could be a bit stronger, but it’s perfectly adequate and the hot water is reliable.

The whole area comes alive in the evenings when people are walking their dogs and hanging out on their balconies. There’s something really authentic about staying here that you miss when you’re in a sterile hotel. You feel like you’re actually living in the city for a few days rather than just visiting it. The host was super responsive when I had questions about getting to the airport, and check-in was smooth – no awkward waiting around or confusion about keys.

Hotel in Tbilisi booking should be done early, especially during harvest season when the city hosts internationally celebrated wine festivals and cultural events.
