Communal Hotel Sololaki Overview

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Communal Hotel Sololaki, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the name. “Communal” had me thinking hostel vibes, but this 4-star gem in Tbilisi’s historic Sololaki district is something else entirely. The moment you walk in, you get why they chose that name – it’s all about bringing people together, but in the most sophisticated way possible.

The location is actually brilliant if you know Tbilisi at all. Sololaki is this gorgeous old neighborhood that climbs up the hillside, full of those classic wooden balconies and winding cobblestone streets that make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. You’re basically walking distance from everything that matters – the sulfur baths (you can actually smell that distinctive mineral scent on certain days), the old town, and honestly some of the best wine bars I’ve found in the city. The hotel sits perfectly positioned where you feel tucked away from the tourist crowds but can still stumble home after a long night exploring Georgian wine culture, if you know what I mean.

What really sets this place apart is how they’ve nailed that balance between modern comfort and local character. The common spaces – and there are several – actually encourage you to hang out and meet people, whether that’s other travelers or locals who seem to frequent the place. I mean, the 9-point-something rating makes total sense when you experience it. The staff clearly knows the neighborhood inside and out, and they’re the kind of people who’ll tell you which marshrutka to take or where to find the best khachapuri at 2 AM (trust me, this information becomes crucial). The rooms themselves feel thoughtfully designed rather than cookie-cutter corporate – you get real comfort without losing that sense of place that makes Tbilisi special. During my stay, I noticed how quiet it stays despite being in the city, probably because these old Sololaki streets don’t get the heavy traffic. Morning light filtering through those traditional Georgian windows while you can hear the distant sounds of the city waking up – it’s the kind of detail that sticks with you long after checkout.

This is probably the most wonderful place I’ve ever spend a holiday. The staff was wonderful (especially George 🩷), breakfast was a feast with both local and more western options, the rooms were clean, beautiful and comfortable. The hotel is placed in a great and safe neighbourhood.

We loved the location: convenient to many restaurants and activities while still on a quiet and peaceful street. The room was comfortable; the towel heater was a particular treat. We didn't plan breakfast in advance, but the breakfast offerings looked very robust and tasty. The hotel provided map and guidance during our time in Tbilisi, and they also helped us arrange transport onward, which was a big help. The keybox for after-hours entry was very handy, as we arrived after the concierge had left for the day.

We had an absolutely fantastic stay at this hotel! The room was beautifully decorated, and the bed was extremely comfortable, making it a perfect retreat after a day of exploring. The location couldn’t have been better—tucked away on a quiet street, peaceful at night, yet only a short 5-10 minute walk to the Old City.

Great neighborhood, with many amazing local restaurants to choose from.

The breakfast at the hotel was incredible too – mezze style.

The staff were exceptional—super friendly and welcoming. They allowed us to check in early, and they gave us some great restaurant recommendations that we absolutely loved.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay and wouldn’t hesitate to come back. Highly recommended!
