Citadel Narikala Hotel Overview

You know what caught me off guard about the Citadel Narikala Hotel? It’s not just the name-drop connection to the fortress – this place actually delivers on that promise of feeling like you’re staying somewhere with real history. I mean, when you’re in Tbilisi, you want that authentic Georgian experience, and this 4-star spot gets it right without trying too hard.

The first thing that hits you is how they’ve managed to balance that old-world Tbilisi charm with modern comfort. Honestly, I’ve stayed in places that go overboard with the “traditional” thing and end up feeling like a theme park, but this isn’t that. The rooms are genuinely comfortable – good beds, reliable hot water (which, let’s be real, isn’t always a given in this city), and windows that actually open properly for those warm Georgian evenings. The 9-point-something rating makes sense once you’re there; it’s the kind of place where small details are handled well. Check-in was smooth, the staff knew enough English to help with restaurant recommendations, and they didn’t try to upsell me on tours I could easily book myself.

What really sold me was the location situation – you’re close enough to the old town action that you can walk to the sulfur baths and the main tourist spots, but you’re not right in the middle of the chaos where tour groups are tramping around at all hours. I actually got decent sleep, which is saying something. The breakfast spread was solid too, with enough Georgian options mixed in with the standard hotel fare that you feel like you’re eating local food, not just international hotel breakfast #47. The view situation varies depending on your room, but honestly, step outside and you’ve got Narikala Fortress right there – sometimes the best views are the ones you walk to, not the ones you pay extra for. If you’re looking for that sweet spot between authentic Tbilisi character and reliable comfort, this place hits it. It’s not trying to be the fanciest hotel in the city, but it knows what it is and does it well.

Reviews of Citadel Narikala Hotel

  • Kamila from Czech Republic (9/10)

Reception works 24/7 and receptionists are very friendly , gave us some advice. My room wasn’t really ready when I arrived ( at 6 am) . It had trash in the small bin and no toothpaste. Next day everything was perfectly clean .
Food was delicious . The fact that they say everything by themselves ( salads , bakery and etc ) is amazing

  • Ekaterina from Sweden (9/10)

Very nice hotel with a romantic view. The hotel is on a steep hill, so keep that in mind before booking. Close to everything. Good treatment and help from the staff. The breakfast was fantastic, with varying hot and cold dishes. Good cleaning every day.

  • Barbara from Slovenia (9/10)

This hotel has probably the best views in Tbilisi, from your balcony you can see whole old town. The rooms have everything you need. The cleaning ladies were amazings, room was cleaned everyday, the towels were changed daily. The breakfast was very delicious, you have a lot to choose from. The hotel is located under the Citadela (which was closed in time of our travel- september 2024), the road to hotel is very very steep, so it's a good workout walking there. The staff were very kind and accomodating. On our departure day they arranged us transportation to the airport (50 GEL). I cannot recommend enough staying in this hotel!

  • Norman from Germany (9/10)

The location of this place is unbeatable. Just beneath the castle (which is currently under construction) at the heart of the old city and just steps away from the Sulfur Baths. Rooms are basic, BUT the views from the rooftop terraces are unbeatable. Also the breakfast is amazing. Overall. superb value for money. Totally recommend them
