Capitol By Umbrella Tbilisi Overview
Tbilisi is a city that feels like a patchwork of old and new, and the Capitol By Umbrella Tbilisi sits right in the middle of that mix, on 4 Dolabauri I Street. When I first stepped out of the metro at Rustaveli, the cool breeze from the Kura River was already mingling with the scent of roasted chestnuts from a nearby vendor. The hotel’s lobby greets you with a surprisingly minimalist vibe – clean lines, a few potted plants, and the unmistakable aroma of freshly brewed Georgian coffee that makes you want to linger. Check‑in was friendly; the staff gave a quick tour of the amenities, but I did notice that they’d appreciate a little more patience with the early‑morning rush – the welcome desk was a tad chaotic around 7 a.m. – the kind of thing that small hotels often have when the city wakes up.
The room itself is a cozy 25 square meters of warm rustic décor. The bed has that plush feel you’re looking for after a day of wandering through the old town’s cobblestone streets, and the ensuite shower is surprisingly spacious, with a rain‑shower that feels like a mini spa session. I loved that the balcony looks out over the old city’s rooftops; you can hear the distant chime of church bells and, at night, the muted hum of traffic that doesn’t drown out the city’s nocturnal lullaby. The Wi‑Fi worked fine most of the time, but I did have a hiccup around 2 a.m. when the signal flickered – I guess you can only expect a bit of lag at a 4‑star spot that’s still trying to catch up with the latest tech.
Parking is a mixed bag. The hotel offers free street parking, but you have to navigate narrow lanes and watch out for delivery trucks that pop up during rush hour. If you’ve got a car, the valet service is available, though the fee is on the higher side for a boutique hotel. Noise-wise, the hotel’s proximity to the Old Town means you’ll hear the occasional street musician or the clatter of a local market – a soundtrack you’ll probably want to leave your headphones in for. But if you’re looking for a quiet night, the building’s thick walls do a decent job of muffling the buzz from the street below.
One of the things that genuinely impressed me was the breakfast spread. It wasn’t a corporate affair; you get a real taste of local flavors – khachapuri, fresh sourdough, and a selection of cheeses that would make a Georgian foodie swoon. The staff were meticulous in keeping the space tidy, and the morning light filtering through the large windows made the dining area feel like a slice of home. For those who enjoy walking, the hotel is a short stroll from the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet, and just a quick hop to the bustling market on Mkharadze Street, where you can snag a fresh fruit or a homemade jam.
Overall, the Capitol By Umbrella Tbilisi feels like an honest, comfortable base that lets you feel the pulse of the city without sacrificing a few comforts. The staff’s friendly attitude, the room’s cozy design, and the easy access to local hotspots make it a solid choice, especially if you’re planning to spend your days exploring the winding alleys and historic sites that make Tbilisi such a magnetic destination.

Never again – I would not recommend this place to anyone. – Alexandr from Cyprus – August 31, 2025 (1/10)
What could be improved: I had an absolutely terrible experience at Capitol By Umbrella Tbilisi. The hotel is in a disastrous condition – wallpaper was peeling, walls were dirty, and the bathroom was horrifying. The entire ceiling above the shower was covered with black mold, and I honestly feared for my health, so I didn’t even dare to take a shower.
Upon check-in, things got even worse: I was given a dirty, uncleaned room that looked like someone was still staying there. It was shocking and unacceptable.
The only reason I booked this hotel was its seemingly attractive price and location close to the airport, as I only needed a few hours between flights. But even for 6 hours, it was unbearable. The sight of black mold is something I cannot forget.Good – Anonymous from United States – August 22, 2025 (7/10)
