Barnaba Apartment Overview
I stayed at Barnaba Apartment in Tbilisi, a cozy spot that feels like a home away from home in the heart of the old town. It’s tucked on Machabeli Street #5, right where the narrow cobblestones meet the scent of roasting chestnuts from the vendors on the corner of Rustaveli—the kind of aroma that lingers even after you’ve moved on. The building itself is a mix of 19th‑century stone and modern touches, so the walls still hold that warm, almost brick‑like texture that you can feel when you walk in. When you first step inside, the living area is surprisingly airy, with a window that opens onto a small balcony overlooking the quieter side of the street. Honestly, the view is a hidden gem; you can see the outline of Mtatsminda in the distance and hear the distant hum of buses on the main avenues—quiet enough to read, loud enough to feel the city alive.
Check‑in was a breeze—no long lines, just a friendly staff member at the door who handed over a key card with a quick smile. I was taken aback by how easy it was to just walk in and start unpacking, which is a relief after the usual airport shuffle. The apartment itself has a loft‑style layout, with a sofa that doubles as a bed and a small kitchenette that, surprisingly, comes with a decent espresso machine. You’ll find everything you need, from a fully stocked fridge to a set of basic kitchenware, and the tiny balcony is perfect for a late‑night espresso while listening to the distant church bells. The only critique I had was the noise from the street at night—there’s a subtle thump of a passing minibus that can be heard through the walls, but it’s more of a background hum than a disturbance. Parking is a bit of a challenge; the street is narrow and most cars pull up a block away, but the city’s public parking is only a few minutes’ walk and often free on weekends.
What really makes this place stand out is how it connects you to the everyday rhythm of the city. On Sunday mornings, you can stroll down to the nearby Metekhi Church and watch the locals gather for their coffee, or wander to the small market on Adjara Street where vendors sell fresh tkemali sauce and baked pastries. The apartment’s Wi‑Fi is reliable, so you can check out the bus schedules or scroll through your travel blogs without a hitch. If you’re a bit of a foodie, you’ll love the fact that the street is peppered with eateries—just a block away is a tiny khachapuri shop that serves the best cheese bread in town. For those who are more into the cultural scene, the Tbilisi Opera House is a stone’s throw away, and in the evenings, you’ll hear the faint strains of classical music drifting from the theater. The apartment’s location means you’re never far from the city’s heartbeat—whether it’s the evening gathering at the Old Bridge or the bustling night markets—but you’re still in a quiet, safe spot that feels like a private sanctuary. All in all, Barnaba Apartment is a spot that blends comfort, convenience, and an authentic slice of Tbilisi life—perfect for anyone who wants to soak in the city without the usual tourist trappings.

Reviews of Barnaba Apartment
Clear recommendation. Uncomplicated and convenient – Felix from Germany – August 20, 2025 (10/10)
My partner and our two mothers stayed with us at Kate's apartment. It was perfect for the four of us, also due to the possibility of transforming the living room into a third bedroom. The apartment is super central located, pleasant neighbourhood. Communication with Kate was flawless. Self check-in is super convenient. Payment is handled via the neighbour, at a time of our convenience. Would book again.
Thank you Kate!
