Atoneli Apartment hotel Overview

I just got back from a weekend in Tbilisi, and let me tell you about this hidden gem that feels like a secret apartment in the heart of the city. Atoneli Apartment hotel tucked on 31/24 Atoneli Street in Mtatsminda is a four‑star spot that will make you forget you’re even staying in a hotel. The building itself is this charming mid‑century block with a little balcony that overlooks the city’s rolling hills. When you step into the lobby, the scent of freshly brewed Georgian coffee drifts in from the kitchen—it’s that, “home” feeling. The staff greet you with a warm, almost conspiratorial nod that you’re in the right place, and the check‑in process is quick, no long lines, just a friendly nod and a keycard that feels more like a passport to the neighborhood.

The rooms are a mix of old‑world charm and modern convenience. The master bedroom has a quilted comforter that feels like a soft hug from a local grandmother. I swear the pillows are so fluffy they could double as a pillow fight prop. The bathroom is a bit on the smaller side, which is fine because the shower has that kind of spray that feels like a tiny rainstorm—great for washing off the dust of the city after a day on the Mtatsminda Funicular. The kitchenette is surprisingly functional; there’s a tiny fridge, a kettle for tea, and a small set of utensils that make it easy to whip up a simple snack. I made a cup of tea and brewed a pot of coffee for the next morning, and the aroma filled the room—just the right amount of caffeine to keep you going.

Parking is a bit of a hunt because the street is narrow and mostly for locals. I found a small parking lot behind the hotel, but it’s a tight squeeze, so you’ll want to bring a small bag for your stuff. If you’re more into the city vibe, just walk. The street is lined with a mix of old Soviet apartment buildings and newer cafes. You’ll hear the chatter of baristas and the clink of cups from a local café that serves the best khachapuri and a surprisingly good cappuccino—maybe it’s the same barista who does the check‑in? The noise levels in the hotel are pretty decent; there’s the occasional hum of a car passing by, but it’s mostly the gentle rustling of leaves from the trees outside the balcony window. In the evenings, the street lights cast a warm glow on the cobblestones, and the city hums with a soft, almost sleepy rhythm—great for winding down.

What I really loved was the little details that only locals would know. I found a small plaque on the wall of the lobby that says “Mtatsminda’s Coffee House”—the exact spot where you can get the best Georgian tea without paying a fortune. There’s also a little stairwell that leads to a private garden where locals gather on sunny afternoons for a quick coffee and a chat. The hotel is close to the Mtatsminda Park—just a 10‑minute walk up the hill, and you’ll find the funicular station right on the way. The park is a vibrant place, with a carousel that feels like a throwback to the 90s. The entire area has a mix of cultural vibes and modern touches—think old church bells ringing in the distance and a new art gallery a block away. The staff will even point out the best times to catch the sunset from the balcony, which is a view of the city’s skyline that makes you feel like a part of the city’s heartbeat.

All in all, Atoneli Apartment hotel is not just a place to crash; it’s a place to live the rhythm of Tbilisi. The blend of cozy rooms, local flavor, and a few quirks that feel like secret tips makes it a spot I’d recommend to anyone who wants to feel like they’ve stepped into a friend’s living room rather than a generic hotel. So if you’re planning a trip, consider this place—just don’t forget to bring a small bag for parking, and maybe a coffee mug from the local café, because you’ll want to keep that taste of Tbilisi with you long after you leave.

Hotel in Tbilisi booking should be done early, especially during harvest season when the city hosts internationally celebrated wine festivals and cultural events.

Reviews of Atoneli Apartment hotel

  • We enjoyed our stay in the heart of Tbilisi. – Zhanna from Russia – February 19, 2025 (8/10)

Excellent location right in the center, 10 minutes to Liberty Square, close to the old city, a 30-minute walk from the Mtazminda cablecar road station (if you walk down, it might be longer if you climb up). The rooms are at the back of the former London Hotel was the best in Tbilisi at the end of the 19th century.

What could be improved: A bit noisy at night, as the hotel is close to a busy street along the river.

  • Everything we needed for a short stay in Tbilisi. – Neil from Malta – October 29, 2024 (9/10)

Really cosy room within a short walking distance of Freedom Square, the parliament and a lot of restaurants. The room was clean and the owner is very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend 👍🏻

What could be improved: It’s a little hard to find since it is reached via an archway and into a courtyard but call the owner and she will explain the way 🙂

  • Nice affordable and clean stay – Ravi from India – March 16, 2024 (8/10)

Nice cozy clean room with all basic facilities

What could be improved: There was a small water clogging problem but it was solved while we went around sightseeing

  • Very Good – Jarkyn from United States – October 10, 2023 (8/10)

This property was behind a residential building. The room was very clean and neat. The bed was very comfortable. Also, it was near walking distance to all the attraction.

  • I will choose this hotel again but I will check the room before checking in. – Alena from Armenia – November 20, 2022 (9/10)

My husband and I were delighted with the layout of the room. Admin was so darling!

What could be improved: The duvet cover was torn. The size of the sheet did not match the size of the bed.

  • Good – Tina from United States – October 4, 2024 (7/10)

It was clean but no tub like in the photo. They provide utensils, plates, cups & kettle. Good location but climbing required. / walk distance to supermarket.

What could be improved: Hard to bring up heavy luggages

  • It was great – Ha from Georgia – August 26, 2024 (8/10)

It was close to city center. Staff are very helpful and friendly.

  • Good – Girija from United Kingdom – August 11, 2024 (7/10)

The location was fantastic, and the staff were very helpful and responsive. A great base from which to explore Tbilisi.

What could be improved: There were a couple of small issues – the main shower head fell off and we could not replace it. There was also bad smell in the bathroom the entire time.

  • A good option for solo traveler – Zinaida from Portugal – July 15, 2024 (8/10)

Pretty close to many central attractions, it is easy to walk everywhere. Stuff was quick to answer queries and very helpful.

What could be improved: It was a bit difficult to find the premises due to the no sign/name of the hotel placed anywhere.

  • Nice room in the centre – Anna from Georgia – June 24, 2024 (7/10)

Awesome location, near the old city. Nice room

What could be improved: But really needs a decent clean
