Apartment Amaghleba Overview

I landed in Tbilisi last night, the sky already bruised pink as the plane pulled into the runway—an instant reminder that this city has its own rhythm. The first thing I noticed about Apartment Amaghleba was the old‑world charm of the building itself: a two‑storey stone façade with a chipped wooden door that squeaked a little when I opened it. The staff at the front desk, a middle‑aged woman with a warm smile, handed me a key card that looked like it could double as a relic from the Soviet era. Check‑in was quick, but they did ask about my travel plans in a way that made me feel like I’d already been a friend of theirs before I’d even stepped inside.

The apartment is a compact but surprisingly airy space. The living area feels like a cozy den, with a sofa that’s soft enough to sink into after a long day on the cobblestones of Rustaveli Avenue. The kitchen is fully equipped—there’s a coffee maker, a kettle, even an instant pot—so I could make myself a mug of Georgian coffee and a quick pot of tea. I love that the apartment has a small balcony that offers a view of the street below; I could hear the distant hum of traffic and the occasional clatter of a bicycle as it passes by. The noise level is fine for a city, especially if you’re not a light sleeper. And the building has a parking spot—just a single space, but it’s a lifesaver if you’re renting a car; otherwise, the public transport is just a short walk away.

What really sets this place apart is the neighborhood. Amaghleba Street is a quiet cul‑de‑sac, yet it’s just a stone’s throw from the bustling Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theatre and the historic Metekhi Church. I walked to a tiny café on the corner that serves the best khachapuri I’ve ever tasted—soft, buttery, with a hint of cheese that made me want to shout out loud. And the market at Vake Avenue is a must‑visit on a Saturday; you can smell fresh apricots and see vendors hawking handmade pottery. When I was out in the evenings, the street lights turned the city into a tapestry of warm amber and cool blue, and the scent of roasting chestnuts drifted in from the nearby park. I’d suggest going to the Old Town’s labyrinthine alleys around the 4th of April Avenue for an authentic night out, but if you’re looking for a quieter spot, just stay in and watch the sunset over the Mtatsminda Park from your balcony.

Honestly, the only critique I have is that the Wi‑Fi can be a bit spotty during rush hour; a quick ping test showed a lag of a few seconds, but that’s a minor inconvenience compared to the overall vibe. Also, the air conditioning is a bit loud at night, but it’s only a matter of adjusting the thermostat. All in all, Apartment Amaghleba feels like a home away from home, with all the practical touches that make traveling painless. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to immerse themselves in the heart of the city without the hotel‑ish feel, and who values a place that feels like a secret corner of Tbilisi that only locals know about. The locals will tell you that this is the place to stay if you want to truly live in the city, not just visit it.

  • Wonderful – Karine from Russia – September 14, 2023 (9/10)

We stayed at Amaghleba appartment from August 30, 2023 to September 10, 2023. Location of the house is very convenient. It is in 15 minutes walk from the center of Tbilisi. The bus stop is also in a few steps. Park Mtatsminda and funicular is in 20 minuts walk from the house. There was everything necessary for comfortable life in the appartment. In front of the entrance to the appartment there is a tiny georgian yard. The appartment was very clean. Our hostess – Eka was nice, intelligent, always available to communicate and very friendly. There are several supermarkets in the district, small vegetables and fruits shops, farmacy, cafe with coffee to go and small bakery that produces georgian lavash. We enjoyed our stay at Amaghleba appartment very much and are pleased to recommend it to other travellers!

What could be improved: As we didn't want to live with the closed windows and working air conditioners, we kept the windows opened and so there was a bit noisy in the rooms, that looked out on Amalgheba street.
