Aparthotel Mari Overview

I just got back from Tbilisi, and let me tell you about this place I stayed at in Mtatsminda. The city’s energy is almost palpable the moment you cross the western gate of the old town, but the neighborhood around Atoneli 23 is a whole different vibe—quiet streets, a hint of the Caucasus breeze, and the distant hum of the metro. The hotel itself, Aparthotel Mari, is tucked between a couple of old apartment blocks, so you get that authentic Georgian feel without the chaos of the city center. As soon as I walked up the stone steps, I could smell the faint scent of woodsmoke from a nearby bakery, and the windows were draped in white curtains that caught the morning light just right. The lobby is a surprisingly cozy space: a low, wooden table with a stack of local magazines, a handwritten sign that says “Welcome” in both Georgian and English, and a small espresso machine that’s always humming in the corner. The staff greet you with a friendly “Good morning” that feels more like a warm hug than a corporate script.

Check‑in was a breeze. The front desk guy was a young man who knew everyone in the building—he even remembered my name from the last time I stayed there. He handed me the keycard with a quick smile, and then pointed me toward a parking lot just a block away. I’ve stayed in places that make you feel like you’re digging through a maze for a spot, but this parking was super convenient: a single, well-lit deck, a couple of attendants, and a small fee that was reasonable for a city like this. The noise level inside the hotel is pretty decent; you can still hear the distant clatter of plates from the breakfast room, but it doesn’t interfere with the soft music playing in the lobby. I spent the first night sipping coffee while looking out the window at the dimly lit streets of Mtatsminda, and the city felt like a quiet, sleeping giant.

The room itself was a pleasant surprise. It’s a studio layout—no separate bathroom, but the bathroom is surprisingly spacious and modern, with a rain shower that feels like a spa. The bed was a king-size thing with a mattress that collapsed into a memory foam topper overnight, so I woke up feeling like a king. The kitchenette was compact but functional: a sink, a small stove, a fridge, and a coffee maker that works like a charm. On the balcony, I could hear the faint chatter of a street musician playing a traditional Georgian folk tune on his lute. The view was a bit limited—mostly the building’s own balcony—but it was still nice to have a little piece of outdoor space.

When you’re ready to step out, the hotel’s location is a sweet spot. A short walk takes you to the Mtatsminda funicular, which gives you a panoramic view of the entire city—trust me, the sunset from the top is a must-see. Nearby, there’s the Sioni Cathedral, a stone’s throw from the hotel, and you can grab a cup of black coffee at a street-side kiosk that’s been around for decades. If you’re a foodie, you’ll love the local market on Gorgasali, just two blocks away, where vendors sell fresh apricots and local cheese that you can take home as a souvenir. The hotel’s staff even gave me a map with a few hidden gem spots, like a tiny tea house on a side street that makes the best black tea in the city.

A quick word on the seasonal differences: if you visit in the summer, expect the streets to be bustling, the funicular to be packed, and the air to have that sweet, smoky smell of grilled meats. In the winter, the city’s lights are a bit more subdued, but the streets are calm, and the snow on the rooftops gives a whole new charm to the old architecture. Check‑in time is 3 PM, but if you arrive early, they’ll lock the room for you and let you explore the neighborhood; that was a nice gesture. The only minor critique is that the Wi‑Fi speed can lag a bit during peak hour, but that’s nothing compared to the overall experience.

All in all, Aparthotel Mari is a hidden gem that feels like a warm hug in

Tbilisi’s hotels showcase the perfect blend of Georgian tradition and modern comfort, with many featuring wine tour services and authentic Caucasian hospitality.

  • Exceptional – Almog from Israel – April 19, 2025 (10/10)

The apartment is located right in the heart of the city, near plenty of places to sit, eat, and enjoy. The design of the apartment is amazing, beyond all expectations (yes, even compared to the photos we saw on the website). The apartment is spacious, clean, filled with good vibes, and fully equipped with kitchen tools and everything needed for a stay in the city as a traveler. The communication with the owner was fantastic; she responded quickly to every request and helped us far beyond what we expected! She's a very kind and polite woman. She told us that all the artwork in the apartment was created by her husband, the artist – everything is very impressive! Tbilisi was wonderful to us, and the city is full of attractions and great people. The European-style architecture is magical, full of culture and art, and the apartment definitely fits perfectly with the picturesque city.

  • Great place to stay in Central Tbilisi. – Steve from United Kingdom – December 14, 2024 (10/10)

Very central location. The apartment is very well appointed with everything you would need for a short or long stay. Very clean and comfortable. Plenty of space for 2 people buy could accommodate 3 comfortably. Very quiet location but you only have to walk through the park to be on the Rustaveli Avenue, alternatively the river is a similar distance the other way. Communication with the owner was very simple and helpful.

What could be improved: Not much wrong. Possibly the kitchen would benefit from a microwave.
